MultiRace
81F / 27C
Overcast
Total Time = 2h 09m 25s
Overall Rank = 36/119
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 5/9
Pre-race routine:

The usual, up and over to the course early to volunteer. Clif bar, diet coke about 1.5 hrs. before race, gel shot about 20 min. before start.
Event warmup:

Swam in bay for maybe 3 minutes.
Swim
  • 22m 10s
  • 880 meters
  • 02m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

Very rough first 200m w/ way more contact than usual. Most folks after the race were complaining about this.
What would you do differently?:

Swim a bit more outside? I gave navigation and "average" because I was doing great until the last turn, and sighted on the blue finishing arch instead of the blue transition arch, which cost me a minute or two.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Sockless this time, seemed to help a little.
Bike
  • 52m 30s
  • 20 miles
  • 22.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Went faster this time than last, but placed 5th in AG, last time placed 2nd in AG for this leg. Faster folks must've shown up!!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Run
  • 52m 16s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Very humid, and I was feeling a bit worn out by this time. Felt like I was getting a flu bug the morning of the event and it finally caught up to me on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster, not get sick, train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, volunteered.

My thinking was that with three events, I could vary my training enough so it wouldn't grow stale prior to seeing positive results and finding the additional motivation I needed to continue training.

You ride hard enough that you are working but not so hard that you can’t do the same thing the next day. 700 km or 400 miles a week.
