I am a COMPLETE tri newbie, doing my first tri in Hopkinton 9/8. Anyone else out there doing this event? Any suggestions? With a 9/8 date, should I be thinking wetsuit? Any input is greatly appreciated!
The water is so warm that it is doubtful you will need a wetsuit. This is a great race. Max performance puts on a fantastic race. Take advantage of the clinics that they offer for swimming. Lots of helpful tips. Ride the course as many times as you can before the race. It will make you more comfortable on race day. Most of all enjoy!!!
I'll second that you won't need a wetsuit unless you'd like to wear one. I did it two years ago without a wetsuit, and I'm signed up for this year too and don't plan to wear one then either. Good luck with your training, and feel free to ask me any questions if you have any.
My wife plans on doing this event for the second year in a row. X2 on the Max Performance event, they do a great job. Last year they had, face painting, balloon animals, and an area to make inspirational posters. Something for the kids to do while supporting their mother! Hilly course from my understanding. Lake swim--to give you an idea of water temps, I did the Wrentham Tri this past weekend and the water temp was 83 degrees. Good luck.
