Good for you.  All that effort and work pays off eventually even if it's not always as quickly as we would like Wink

I remember when I finally had my breakthrough. Took me a month of swimming everyday M-F, but man did it feel AMAZING once it finally happened! Once you have that breakthrough then you can really work on increasing speed. Congrats!

Yay!  I feel like the swim breakthroughs are the most satisfying ones :)

So, let's see...

You had a breakthorugh on the run a few days ago, breakthrough on the swim today...

These things happen in threes, just sayin;)

That's a solid improvement - good work!

I'm, alas, still awaiting my breakthrough on swimming despite ramping up my swimming a lot from where I used to be. Haven't improved barely at all after 3 weeks of nearly 15k/week, and still hoping for the best....

There's actually one thing that I think it's helping a lot and that it's I'm picturing swimming with my back muscles as opposed to my biceps (huge muscle vs. tiny little muscles) per my coach's suggestion so whenever I'm swimming I picture my back muscles activating. I'm huge into that kind of visualization, I picture my quads and hams working while I bike, for instance.

For the 800 I asked to be put on the next lane over for fast swimming motivation and she said the person in my lane was swimming fast enough and I told her oh ye faithless and she told me to keep up with him and I did I don't know how and my fastest 800 ever lol In other words, I have no idea how I did it

I'm oppositional, if someone thinks I can't go as fast as someone, I do lol

The whole swim with your back conversation came up because I'm starting to do a fsater turnover, I tend to pause at the top of the catch and don't go through the water as quickly as others, and I told her my arms hurt because of the harder pushing, and that's when she said to swim with the back. And my arms now barely hurt and I'm going faster!

It is great that you are making progress but is this really the first time your coach has discussed engaging your lats while swimming?

More than likely not, but sometimes it takes time or other things clicking first for something to click
