FYI, the annual Battle of the Bridges Sprint/Oly tri is being held this year on Sept 29th.  Great venue and is put on by the Space Coast Tri club around the Indian River Lagoon in North Melbourne/Satellite Beach/Indian Harbor beach.  Most of the roads have been repaved in the past couple of years.  I'm in for the Sprint.

I'll be there. I've done the bike route (US-1, Pineda, Patrick, Eau Gallie) and run over the Eau Gallie bridge a few times. It should be lots of fun.

I'm out Cry, I now have a business trip to go on that weekend.  Will instead plan fro the Clermont Horrible 100 (or 70 miles) and a 10k Turkey Trot in Suntree to go hard in.

I'm in for the sprint. I did this one last year. It's a fun race. It was actually my first ever tri and first OWS too which is why I had a 16min (yes MINUTE) 1/4 swim time.

Should go much better this year.

I'm in for the Sprint as well. My last swim in a tri was less than impressive, so after lots of swim drills and sets, I'm looking forward to get a decent swim time in a tri for once.

Me too. I'm featured in the pamphlet! Look at the pictures in the middle. I'm the guy running with my hands up at the finish line last year. Number 405!

Hey, I recognized you in the corral. We were in the same wave (light blue). I hope you did well. I was afraid that the weather would be like Saturday's. Rainy and gloomy. But, the clouds opened up and made for a great race.

Race was great! Weather was perfect with almost no wind. I did WAY better this year. Went from 219 overall last year to 55 overall this year. Knocked 23min off my overall time.! Has alot to do with how badly I stank last year, this was my first tri ever in 12, lol. Took 6:30, yes six minutes and thirty seconds off my swim. I'm firmly MOP finally. Feel legit now. Lol.

How did it go for you?

I did well. BotB was my 3rd triathlon. I just started all of this in June.

Finished 4th in my AG and 18th OA. Swimming is my strong point and I was 5th out of the water in our wave (2nd in AG). The bike was decent and was passed by the same number of riders that I passed. So, I figured that it leveled out well. And the run? Well, I'm still working on that. Let's just say that I watched my podium moment slip away very quickly on the final downhill of the bridge. Two guys in my AG flew past me.

Looks like you and I were both in 35-39M. Good job dude! I royally suck at the bike but rode my fastest ever avg pace of 19.2 which is almost 2mph faster than my fastest training rides. Not sure how I managed that. Must've been the great weather.

Do you ever swim with that group behind squid lips on eau galle?

Yeah, I'm a 35-39 AGer. I noticed that adrenaline is one hell of a boost. I always manage to do everything faster on race day than when training.

I started doing the Wednesday Squid Lips BRICK a few weeks ago. If you've been there, I'm the short guy with a yellow cap with a smiley face on the front.

I'm kind of skeeved out right now with all the bacteria deaths that seem to be popping up in the news. Latest one was Indian River.

I read, last night, about the two fishermen that were infected in the Indian River. I'll fend off sharks in the ocean before I get back in that water.

BTW, Running Zone is no longer doing the swim on Wednesday evening. It's better that they don't.

It's over-hype on something that's been occurring for ever.  It a concern for those with suppressed immune systems, open lesions and a warning not to eat raw sea food out of the lagoon.  If your on Facebook get on the local "It's a triathlon - Suck it up! " page and you'll see most everyone is blah about the reports.  Plenty of local triathletes are swimming of Rotary park in Suntree and Melbourne Beach pier & ocean until all of the tri's ore over in Nov.  RZ stops the Wed night stuff after BoTB every year.

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?

A Navy Seals program modified specifically for triathletes. Heavy on the running, swimming, push/pull-ups and sit-ups, will you find yourself man (or woman) enough to finish?
