Total Time = 1h 14m 19s
Overall Rank = 26/344
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/13
Pre-race routine:

4am wake up & leave with Brad from my house at 4:45. Ate some cereal with a banana & coffee.
Event warmup:

Mid 50's at 7:30 so everyone was standing around freezing. Did a 5 minute swim right before my wave went out and discovered the water was the only warm place to be.
Swim
  • 06m 24s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

Only wore a wetsuit in order to keep warm pre-race & even with it on I was still cold waiting for my wave to start.. Started in the front of the group and I believe I kept that position throughout. Good, fast swim for me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

Fumbled a bit in transition and I notice my T1 time was much longer than most of the people in the top 20 (like twice as long).
What would you do differently?:

Someday learn how to clip my shoes on the bike and get into them while riding. Also not wearing socks would have make this quicker.
Bike
  • 41m 34s
  • 15 miles
  • 21.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Still kind of ambivalent on this bike effort & result. Last week at my HIM, I put out an easier effort HR-wise and had a 21.9 mph averaged over 56 miles. Today on a similarly flat 15 mile course I pushed MUCH harder and had a 21.7 average. One would think on the shorter course, I'd be faster, but I am going to play the wind card here and say that is the reason why I was slower.

I am pleased with my effort level and focus on the bike, I was just hoping to be a bit faster. I took one gel with a little bit of water at about mile 10 because I had forgotten to take my gel pre race. That was the only hydration and nutrition needed on this cool day.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Run
  • 23m 2s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Good effort for me on the run.

7:40, 7:31, 7:15
Post race
Warm down:

Water, cookie, Delafield Brewery amber beer, sub, coke, more water.

Event comments:

Stuck around to get my award. Still trying to figure out what it is, but my best guess is a cartoon character of a chalice holding a replica of, ironically, a chalice that he is using to pour himself a drink into himself. Awesome bizarre, but I love it!

So the one and only Triathlon I miss of yours and you finish 1st in AG? Perhaps I should stay away more often! :-)

Nice going! The wind and colder temps definitely slowed down the bike yesterday, so you're not imagining things there.

Nice race and AG win.  Regardless of what the trophy actually is, I think it's pretty cool

Not to nitpick, but your race report is wrong. I don't think it hit 60 until later in the afternoon. ;-)

Nice race, speedy!

For whatever the reason I thought the bike was HARD as well. The first half I couldn't get about 20 and averaged about 19. The second half I was able to average around 21 to 22 and avg'd 20.4 in the end. Maybe stong head wind?

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

So someone convinced you to get off the couch and truck-it to the finish line. Now what? Here's a look at the process from admiring others to inspiring others.
