The drunker he gets the night before a race, the better he does.

I just tried not to let Mark get too much of a lead on the bike. From there I just tried to find a couple guys to pick off on the run. Both quads were cramping, maybe due to my pre race activities. My body may finally deciding it wants me to take care of it.

I will be in Kona next year, just in late May for the 70.3. I'm not even close to being in your league.

Pete can still bring it, even hungover. What a great race by young Mr. Burghart, sub 7's after a very fast bike split. My bike was so so by my standards. I looked at two years ago same exact course, I was two minutes slower this year. Not sure what happened there. I has the quad cramping thing Pete had but I can't blame it on the 3.2 flu or anyting like that.

Results show I was 6th OA on the swim but two of those times ahead of me are questionable (one lap only?). They could be just really great swimmers doing their occasional tri but I don't recognize the names from locals masters meets etc.

Plctures are up at seekcrun.com BTW.

See yooz guyz Sunday in Paola!

I won't say the name, but I know "one" of the swimmers that showed "one" of the top swims of the day and I was shocked that it should as the fastest swim of the day. Something does not seem right on that swim time at least.

Homemade wine is a no no! Those watching from home, do not attempt.

The race execution itself went very smoothly. I was surprised by the lower numbers this year. Only 148 long course, 11 in my AG. I did the race two years ago, there were 250 total in the long course, 19 in my AG. I did notice on the run there were only two people (maybe 3?) at each water station which could pose a challenge if a pack of 4-5 runners should come by all at once. But given the lower turnout, maybe that wasn't a problem. But with one person refilling cups that only leave one more to hand them out.

I liked the mug instead of a finishers medal. I do appreciate the awards ceremony afterwards, even if there was no AG award recognition, just top 5 male and female.

Thanks for the report. I was curious about this as well. I heard that there was no one at the run turn around point. Is that right? Given the low numbers, I would expect Meltdown to be even lower...is that right? My first triathlon ever last year I won my age group and got a nice award. I think that is what got me hooked. It was an indoor tri and I was the only one in my AG.

I did meltdown last year and it was the smallest race I've done. Maybe 50 long course racers? I'm expecting about the same this year.

I heard a lot of talk about the swim course being long...did you guys think the same?

I'm curious, because I had a REALLY slow pace time...way slower than any other race I've done this year by ~20 seconds!

I didn't feel the swim course was long, I was surprised by the low water levels again. It's odd to be out there 250m and see folks standing/walking as you swim by.

I was also surprised by the low participant levels. Was there another event going on in the area? This is normally a bigger event.

Still had a good time though. Beat my time last year by a considerable margin and even won my division. The Mrs. and kids came and cheered me on this time too.

I thought it was a bit long, maybe 50-100y each loop. My pace for the long course was slower than my usual warmup pace, but I had to do quite a bit of weaving the second lap. I thought my effort didn't exactly match my time. That, and no one swam faster than a 1:30/100y average, which seems unlikely.

I'd much rather have the swim long than short. Two years ago this swim took me 7:41. This year, nearly 19 minutes longer. Maybe that's why my bike split was two minutes faster in 2011 ....
