I am sure that this has been exhausted ad naseum and apologize. However, I couldn't find anything.

I am looking for a simple way to track pace and distance on runs. Nothing fancy. No heart rates needed and not necessarily map routing. I am OK with the features, but not needed. I want to download the data so I can track pace and distance over time. But, I am open to downloading the map. I don't want to have to use an iPod to track. I just want something for the shoe or the wrist.

What do you recommend?

Thanks,
Steve

I used the Garmin 110 for awhile.  Pretty straightforward GPS watch.

Same as above. my wife just went to REI and got a smaller Garmin. Nothing fancy about it. Just has GPS and can track your work out along with pace and has a pacer to keep you on your goal. Uses a USB to computer. Real simple and was inexpensive.

I just use the route planner on the USATF web site and my basic 50-lap Timex Ironman watch.  I've saved my regular routes in the BT logger and just enter my time when I'm done.

Provided one was proficient in setting up the different functions of the Lap Track, I think that a short-course triathlete would benefit most from this, since it only records splits up to 50 laps.

One way to improve your speed is to do track work that totals the time and distance goal. The idea is to slowly condition your body to be comfortable at your goal pace.
