Am heading there for the olympic distance - exactly a month out from today. First time to the race and the area in general. Heard its pretty scenic, and the race is low key and laid back

Anyone else going too? or done it in the past years

Did the Lake George half ironman distance two years ago. It's a really low key and fun race. I remember they had smoothies at the finish line for all the athletes. It's a really fun race. Can't make it up there this year, but have a blast! Here's my race report from then, in case you wanted to read something about the race. I remember the bike course was measured long.

I'm signed up again this year, and it's a FANTASTIC race. There are a few waves during the swim, since the morning wind comes across the lake, but the water is very clean and a good temp. Wetsuits have been allowed each time I've done it. The bike course has a couple of decent climbs but nothing awful. The run is a double loop that includes two relatively steep hills, but downhill and flat to the finish. VERY scenic. I love this course! And the race is excellently organized. A+++

did the olympic two years ago. had a great time. the lake is beautiful. will probably be one of your favorite places to swim.

the area is very nice as well. just be careful when eating out. the prices are a little high over there.

I'll be doing the half and looking forward to it. Just rode the course yesterday and it's a FAST course!

Just finished a practice ride for the Olympic race.

As a slow, newbie cyclist I was very intimidated by the bike elevation profile.
However I'm relieved to know that the course really wasn't hard at all. It seemed like most of the course was downhill. There is a good sized hill about half way through and the last third has a couple hilly sections but overall nothing to worry about.

Most surprising to me was the first third of the course being on a bike/foot path through the woods. Very scenic and fun.

Good luck and have fun folks!

I did it in 2007, and my husband did the swim the other day. It was a beautiful day!

It was a very enjoyable race

I have only done NYC before, and compared to that, it was a world apart. clear lake swim, beautiful bike course and a fun run leg

Completed the half and took the W for the 30-34 AG! First ever win of a half iron. Very happy to say the least!

Is anyone doing the Lake George Tri (big or little George) this year - 2014? I am contemplating it; I just rode and ran the bike and run courses this morning back to back to check it out.

I am about to sign up for the Oly - still have to click that buy button. None of my friends are doing it this year so I won't know anyone. It's always nice to feel the support of others here on BT of folks who are going. I just rode and ran the course yesterday and am in one piece still so outside of the swim I've done 2/3 of the race. Just getting nervous. I had only planned on doing sprint tris this year but am deciding to make that leap to the Oly for experience.

Awesome! I've heard the HIM is a really nice race there. I'll be the day before doing the Oly.

Had a bike fit last Friday which was great but only 2 rides on it since. Getting nervous and hoping for low wind. At least the weather forecasts have been improving! Heading out Friday to arrive there Friday afternoon (but I'm doing the Oly Saturday, not the HIM).
Are you going to bring your bike the night before if the weather is good? I've heard it works out well by friends who have done it in the past.

Did the Oly yesterday.
Good luck at Big George today, I hope the weather holds out for you and the winds stay calm for the swim! We lucked out yesterday - the winds didn't kick in until well into the bike so the lake stayed calm.

How did Big George go, Randy? They changed the run to 4 loops for your guys on the same course we had for the Oly. How'd you like that and if you've done this race before how did it compare to the out and back twice on the bike path?

Also, how do you like your 910xt? I'm looking to either get the 920xt or wait and get the 910xt at a greatly reduced rate this fall when the 920 comes out.

Cheers

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I am running Boston in April and Ironman Lake Placid is in July. I have been told that it is ambitious to think about doing an IM so close to a marathon due to the recovery time. Any suggestions?

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
