643 | Subject: What's your post IM training plan? Well I finished my first 140.6 last weekend. I did a lot better than I thought and was super happy. I took a week off work to get some things done. I pretty much just sat on my and guilt tripped myself the entire time. I did a nice easy 4 mile run Wednesday. I planned to do 8 but my knee felt different and I didn't feel the need to push it. I FINALLY put my bike back together last night with the intention of riding it on the trainer but after dinner, I felt like a bus hit me (a reoccurring thing this week...) and decided to rest. Today I knocked out 13.1 miles in just under 1:42, so it was actually one of my better runs which surprised me. The first 10 miles were easy but the last 3 felt really hard. I have another tri in 3 weeks (1,000 yd swim, 20m bike, 10K run), so I need to train for that too but it definitely won't be IM length training. I don't plan to work out 6 days/week to train for it. Maybe 4-5 and sort of rely on base fitness to help carry me through. What do you guys do for post IM workouts? I've been eating nothing but crap this week and sitting on my butt. I don't want to be one of those people who do an IM and then fall apart. I also don't want to do 20 hour/week workouts again (...well at least not until next year). I looked into a master's swim program and it's cheaper to pay per quarter, so I'll start that after October and hope that keeps me honest for swimming. I plan to bike ~2 hours on the weekend and then a long run the other day. Friend wants me to do a marathon 12 weeks from now and I think that could help me stay together but I'd supplement it with swim and bike so I don't lose what I worked so hard for but I won't feel bad if life comes up and I need to skip a day as opposed to before where life got 2nd priority. |

Master 2855 Kailua, Hawaii | Subject: RE: What's your post IM training plan? I've only done 1 IM, but will be doing my 2nd in a few weeks. Personally I was glad to be done with the IM and wanted to have some fun with the off season.. I scaled back all the training quite a bit, but trained enough to do a 20 mile trail run about 2 months after. If I had a goal race after the IM, I would already have decided to come up with a plan - recover and resume training for the next event. But if I don't have a race after, I'd prefer to just not train specifically but ride, run, swim when I wanted. My plans for after this upcoming IM, are, exactly the same...play and have fun. If I happen to get into a race for October (fantasy), then that's gonna be a different story. |

Regular 847 Akron | Subject: RE: What's your post IM training plan? Lots of Guinness and time in the saddle ( I mean bar stool) . Catch up with friends. On the serious side. Take a good week off (maybe some walking/ hiking/ swimming). By the 2nd wknd last year I was running slowly and back on the bike, but I was burnt out. Just did what I could do at easy pace. I did a Half Iron distance about 7 weeks after my full and felt great. I think it took me about 4 weeks to start feeling better as far as sluggishness went |

Yeah I signed up for an October marathon. Wasn't planning on it but I was offered a charity spot for Chicago so snapped it up. I start running this week Planning on running 4x per week and cross training 1-2x per week. Throw in some strength and yoga and it will keep me busy. |

1053 | Subject: RE: What's your post IM training plan? Taking 2 weeks unstructured workouts depending on how I feel my recovery is going. Running every day, will be probably in the 35-40 mpw range. 2 swim "workouts", 2000yd "ish" per week, and 2 rides in the 1 to 2 hour range. Doing a Nov. marathon and will do Pfitzinger 18/85 to get ready. I still want to swim and ride twice a week for maintenance. Off season will be some strength training and probably 10-12 hours per week s/b/r until training for an early season marathon and late spring/early summer HIM. Looking to do another IM next August or so. |

Champion 10550 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: What's your post IM training plan? After my IM last year my training plan involved a whole lot of nothing. Which made it that much harder to get into the swing of things for this year. When I'm done with my IM this year (October), I'd really like to sign up for some run races earlier in the year to keep me going. I know that running is BY FAR my weakest of the three and could use the most work, so I'm really going to try and not slack off as much as I did last year. |

Subject: RE: What's your post IM training plan? The immediate plan is the biggest breakfast I can find Monday morning in Whistler. More long term plan is I signed up for Miami 70.3 end of October so can't get too fat |

643 | Subject: RE: What's your post IM training plan? Well I'm working out again. I wanted to do run intervals today but I just did ~8.5 miles at marathon pace instead + swam about 2500m before the run. The run was hard and my knees are not feeling right. Don't hurt but I'll be taking it easier on them. I need to bike instead. I think I decided on the marathon on October. I also signed up for some fun things a long time ago (Extreme 5K run and tough mudder). Although not a tri, it should give me something to keep somewhat in shape. As for relaxing..after eating 4 donuts at work yesterday and then going home and eating 1/2 a Papa John's pizza, I think I have to work out. I'm so used to eating whatever the hell I want, anytime I want, multiple times a day, that I'll be 300 pounds unless I'm careful. Tried a beer finally. I was craving some all year but I think after working out constantly and not drinking due to early morning workouts, I no longer have any desire to drink. Doh... so much for that relaxing idea. |
