Total Time = 2h 47m 38s
Overall Rank = 101/165
Age Group = 60-64
Age Group Rank = 1/3
Pre-race routine:

I do all my long training prior to eating in the morning. I tried this for the first time in a race and feel it worked well for me.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 26m 45s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Water was cold but did not effect me once the swim began. Had a little trouble taking deep breathes due to wet susuit. My sighting was not good. Found myself off course twice, so started sighting every third breath.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 03m 25s
Comments:

Suit stuck of left heel. Took at least 30 seconds to get off and I was then totally out of breath.
What would you do differently?:

Relax and focus when taking off suit.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 58s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.29 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the flats and passed several groups but fell behind on the hills. Average speed was around 21mph going into the climb at the end. Took one corner too fast and would have hit a vehicle head-on if one had been there.
What would you do differently?:

More hill work leading up to the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

T2 went smooth
What would you do differently?:

Need to get some speed laces for the shoes
Run
  • 57m 56s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good start and found my running legs in the first 1/4 mile
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing special, but I should have stretched. I'm very stiff the following day

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being 61 yo

Event comments:

I love the venue. The course is challenging but not too hard. This was my 3rd year and I will be back.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.
