I just joined MPF, same user name.

For those of you who have a sedentary lifestyle (sit at a desk all day, grr!) - what type of NET calorie numbers does the app give you to work with? I am at 1200 calories per day to lose 1.5lb per week. Trying to keep things in perspective- I was hungry when I went to bed last night, not stomach growling, but a very "empty" feeling. I guess that's ok?

It has my base as 1200 as well, but when I log activities, I earn more points.

Yeppers, mine was set at 1456. Way lower than most other sites I have tried. BUT.......

I have noticed two big things. One this is a net amount. If you dig a little the actual amount corresponds with your workout and fitness goals. I also noticed that the site is very generous with the amount of calories burned in an activity, in my opinion.

So, I put a sedentary lifestyle, but I also put in that I wanted to burn 250 calories per day. This would put me back to what most websites say I should eat to meet a 2 lbs goal per week. Personally, I am liking two things about this website over others. The food database is AWESOME!!!! I have yet to find something that was not in it. Secondly, the break down of the nutrition levels are really detailed. For a data junkie like myself I love it. On the other hand the report of exercises and specifically the cardio workouts are a little bit high. I usually take what my Garmin or even better my Strava app says. ( I know, I know, in one day I have mention 4 places that I log stuff.) I am a data junky.

I added both of you as friends, if you want add the other two users too. It is reassuring to me to see other working at it too.

Have my base at 1720.  I chose lightly active as I am on my feet for 2/3 of the working day.  Sure does not seem like a lot!  I know I was way overeating before I started MFP.  I just updated this to, I was at 1900 a number I chose at a semi random guess.

YES!! Also there is a barcode scan option if you are too lazy to search the database LOVE that.

Agree that the calories burned seem a tad high (all though not grossly high) but it gives a good reference point. Today it told me I burned 509 calories running 56 minutes/5 miles. Based on previous Garmin data running with heart rate monitor I usually burn around 90 calories per mile - so fairly close.

Did a couple more test with this one and I can concur it does a pretty good job.

I will say a friend (ok, it's my girlfriend) will eat to her balance everyday! I mean like count grapes out if she has extra calories. I keep trying to tell that it is a baseline generality blind guess, but she takes it as Bible. She will walk for 12 minutes, so that she could have burned off a piece of candy. I slap my forehead and say walk the 12 minutes forget the candy. But that is an argument for another day. Makes life a little interesting with her logic.

(Ps. no she does not read this site)

7/25 - 189.2

7/31 - 188.2

8/8 - 188.2

8/14 - 187.8

8/22 - 186.0

8/28 - 186.4

Recovered from my vacation.  There was lots of delicious food, and way to much of it.  Took a day or two, to get back into MFP but seem to be back in the routine.  Going to shoot for 183lbs on my race on 9/14.

220 lbs this morning. Not exactly sure what happened this week. I ate well, and exercised hard. Oh, well expected a little better result. I will still take it.

Running Disney 10k and 1/2 this weekend. The trick for me is not to celebrate too hard with food.

I am curious how many of these do you follow or fail at, and then how many do you agree with?

The one about Pinterest Yell. Pinterest is great if I type in a specific healthy food I'm looking for like grilled chicken recipe, or quinoa or something.

But if I just look at everything it's awful - filled with photos and links to the worst stuff for me. I just sit there and let myself get hungrier and hungrier. I've stopped going there regularly and only go there now if I can count on myself to filter to "fashion" pins, or am looking for a specific type of healthy recipe.

Vacation and then some empty nest celebration over the weekend did me in. Back at it trying to get in some good workouts this week before slowing down a little next week before my HIM.
Somehow I don't think I will hit the 220 mark I wanted to race at, but why should any of my plans for this race go according to plan?

So I did a little soul searching and came up with this list.

1.I know my calories
2. I eat on giant plate
3. I shop with a list pepperplate.com helps with budget and food
4. Eat with a plan pepperplate.com
5. Dine out too often. Break #4 once my plan breaks the week suffers.
6. Completely Distracted eater (TV Computer Candy Crush)
7. Weigh in (too much, a little OCD about this. )
8. Not a big fan of pinterest, but I text my food out to friends and they back to me.
9. Consuming liquid calories (wine and beer only and not that much really like 3 a week)
10. No Night nibbler, (maybe icecream once a week)
11. I eat Carbs, I really try and stay balanced
12. I try not to be the perfect eater, My OCD does kick in though I have been known to eat 2/3 of a sandwich to keep it in balance.
13. I have lost friends over food, I eat with a different group for lunch now, the old friends ate horribly for lunch everyday.
14. Emotional snacker totally ,I get pissed I eat.
15. Not really too sweat
16.Sometimes Bank ( salad for chocolate)
17. Sleep, most of the time i get 7, but usually no more. I sleep when I am dead.
18.There is always time to Exercise, I do not get people that say this. Go for a quick walk 20 minutes.

Made me think about my bad days and good days, I am not perfect but I have changed my lifestyle. It not a diet, it is how i eat now.

1: I just started using MFP.  I was shocked by the amount of calories that I consumed.  I was consuming probably an extra 500 calories than I thought.

2: Not an issue for me.

3: Guilty

4: Getting better.  Dinner is my worst.

5: Yes, I have been making healthy choices though.  It’s more of a cost thing.

6: Lunch maybe, dinner and breakfast I eat at the table every single meal w/o TV (thanks mom!)

7: Opposite problem I weight myself daily.

8: No.

9: The only drinks that I have that have calories are sports drinks – during a workout.  I limit diet soda.  I will occasionally have a sweetened tea.  I’m not counting beer because – well I’m not lol.

10: Yes, I need to stop this.

11: I love my carbs

12: I’ll have bad food once in a while.

13: Not an issue

14: I have no emotions! But seriously not an issue for me.

15: Millions of years of evolution is hard to suppress guilty as charged.

16: I used to do this – I don’t anymore.   I use real butter, real cream cheese.  I just limit portions now.

17: I get 7 hours of sleep a night.  I can’t function otherwise.  I wish I could, I would get more done in a day.

18: I’m lucky to have an extremely flexible job, so there is always time.
