Total Time = 2h 51m 53s
Overall Rank = 96/143
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 14/15
Pre-race routine:

Followed my QT2 prescribed nutrition for an OLY.
Event warmup:

jogged a little bit... that's all I had time for.
Swim
  • 29m 25s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

My right shoulder is still recooping so took it easy to the first bouy. Small group of around 25 peeps. Started at the back. Passed some of the guppies. Couldn't find anyone at my pace. Rounded first bouy. Sun glaring my vision now. Needed to find feet to follow. Got along side a guy at around my pace. Stayed on his left hip the rest of the way. Checked a few times to make sure he was on target... all good. So just followed him.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 1h 24m 21s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.68 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike fitness is way off... avg watts somewhere below 150. And I probably cooked my legs a little too much. Need to back off for next week's Oly a bit and leave more for the run.

Got knocked over at the start when clipping in... idiot next to me did a leap on his bike and lost control and swerved into me. I fell and he kept riding... noting broken, but knee banged up, bleeding. Lost about a minute recovering, getting bike back up and getting going.
What would you do differently?:

Be super careful about those idiots mounting their bikes like fricking maniacs. Get further away from the mount line more.
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

Take feet out of shoes as I come into T2? That's something to explore. Just afraid my shoe might get caught and I'll flip the bike. Need to test it out.
Run
  • 58m 7s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Nutrition was good I felt... no bonking, but did just loose major steam.
What would you do differently?:

Start out slower... better to neg split than burn out like that.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training and some mistakes on pacing.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
