I love this thread, just reading it really helps me out.
A quick suggestion if it’s not too late. It would be great to put some lap swimming etiquette in the article as well. You know, Circle swim, letting others pass, touching feet instead of over running someone, what to do when someone touches your feet, what to do when you have finished a set and others still need the wall to make their turns. Stuff like that would be beneficial.

That article was one of the first BT articles I read and I bookmarked it immediately.  It was very useful when I was just starting out.  Thanks .

Gravity Check - testing that the laws of physics are still in effect by throwing yourself off the bike, often accompanied by a Face Plant, a Yard Sale, a Shark Bite, or by Augering In. Synonymous with Involuntary Dismount.

IMLP - Ironman Lake Placid
(maybe a subset list of the different IM's and their associated abbreviations

There are a lot of 'em:

IMH (or, more popularly, "Kona") - Ironman Hawaii/Ironman World Championships
IMC (or "Penticton")- Ironman Canada
IMMoo (or IMoo) - Ironman Wisconsin
IMLP (or IMUSA) - Ironman Lake Placid
IMLou (or IMKY) - Ironman Louisville
IMCdA - Ironman Couer d'Alene
IMFL (or IMF) - Ironman Florida
IMWA - Ironman Western Australia
IMUK - Ironman United Kingdom (is this still around?)

There are a bunch of others, but those are the ones I see most frequently.

Golf as it pertains to swimming

Stroke,,,,,, the truth,,,,,,,, is a stroke counted every time a hand hits the water or is it like a revolution only one stroke when the left then the right completes a revolution?

DOMS- delayed onset muscle soreness

you may not recognized the term, but I'm sure you've experienced it. Its just when you are more sore the second day after a workout. Signifies your body adapting and getting fitter.

Mottyl I know you've been after a description of this one.  This is taken from the woman triathlete:

TRANSITION RUN:  (similar to BRICK) A training method used to teach your legs to adjust from riding to running.  Can last 15mins to an hour depending on your race distance.  Used to avoid "wobbly legs"  Is usually race pace specific.

I've got a few

Lance: An Aussie term of endearment for any bike rider in Full discovery kit on a Trek bike... There are a lot of them

Robbie: (see Lance)  An Aussie term of endearment for anyone riding in Davitamon/Predictor lotto kit  (may soon be changed to CADEL)

$10000 bike, $2000 legs: A term implying that the rider doesn't have the skill or strength to ride the high end bike they're on

Enticer: Short course or Mini-Sprint Triathlon(usually under 300m, 15km and 3km distance)

Stingose: http://www.jnjaust.com.au/products/stingose/ Something to have in your transition area if you're doing a "tropical" triathlon. The "cure all" that can usually stop itching or burning caused by jellifish, midges, horseflies or sea-lice so you can focus on the race.  Very useful for Open water or canal swims in Queensland.

ehcalum - 2006-08-24 10:37 AM  Snakebite: two itty bitty holes in a tube because the rider was an idiot for underinflating their tire and/or using a screwdriver to set the tire bead.

LOL I was that idiot a couple of weeks ago....the underinflation, not the screwdriver. I didn't know you had to inflate road tires constantly; never had a road bike before. Live and learn!!
