Subject: Afternoon slump
I ride to and from work as part of my training program (25-30ks each way) and find that on some afternoons I have no energy whatsoever. I think it may be a nutritional problem. Anyone got any suggestions as to what to eat before I leave for home to get "powered-up"...

I usually have a bowl of instant oatmeal if I have my afternoon slump. My ride home is under 5 miles so it doesnt even count, and sometimes I do 14 hour days so I ride home at 10pm. But the extra sugar in the instant oatmeal is quick and the rest of the oats is more sustained energy.

Anything with carbs in it.  Energy bar, sandwich, cereal to name a few.

There's loads of ideas in this thread (the suggestions were for early morning workouts but that doesn't really matter) - http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=45778&posts=20&start=1
