Pre-race routine:

This is my 2nd race after 6 months ofs to heal my various injuries. I'm super excited to be able to race hard and not feel any pain during or afterward. I'm not where I was last year in terms of fitness, but right now I don't care about that. I have all the time in the world to rebuild.

Got up at 2am. Ate my pre race meal. Went back to sleep. Woke at 5. Changed, put sunblock on my face, got my stuff ready and left by 5:45.
Event warmup:

Did a very short jog. Got to shore a bit late so not much of a swim warmup. Should try to get there earlier.
Swim
  • 33m 24s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

I didn't get to hear the announcer tell us about the course so I had no idea where to go and with 3 different distances going on, this was not good. Need to make sure to know the route. Because of this I know I lost time because I was off course a couple times. I know I can swim faster than 2min/100 especially with a wetsuit.

I didn't really stretch pre-race so I think this contributed to my left thigh starting to feel like it was cramping up... the feeling didn't stick thankfully, but in the last miile of the run, that left thigh almost, almost seized up on me....
What would you do differently?:

Know the course. Warm up properly. Stretch a little of possible.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Bike was right outside of the Swim Exit. Not a bad place to be. Wetsuit half way off during run up, left cap/goggles in sleeve. Forgot to put on socks on so feet were wet. Made getting into shoes harder. Shoes were on the bike with rubber bands. If I go sans socks (on purpose) I need to put some talcum powder in the shoes or something to make it easier.

Second fastest T1 of my AG.
What would you do differently?:

Wear Socks or put talcum on shoes.
Bike
  • 1h 25m 51s
  • 26 miles
  • 18.17 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty good ride.... need to get my conditioning back up to where it was last Year. I'd guess my FTP is at 160 or something right now. Won't know till I test it again soon.

Drank 1 bottle of perform and took 1 gel at mile 17.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Good transition. Very fast. Tied for 2nd with three other guys.
Run
  • 53m 25s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Held back at beginning... didn't want to burn out like last week.

Ate 1 clif blok every 2 miles. (3 total)
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around.. not much else

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. Sight better during swim. Know the swim course layout.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.
