I see people in the run stage wearing calf high compression socks & I can't help but wonder how the hell they get them on. I have a pair of CEP socks that I wear after long runs or races, and it takes me what seems like forever to get them on. I can't imagine trying to do that while under the crunch of transition.

Obviously you value speed over fashion. For shame.

Oh, I have no disrespect for fashion & more power to those who pull up their Pipi Longstockings in T2, but for me, I feel like I can figure out exactly what my wife's is thinking faster than I can get those socks on!

I wear them under my wetsuit or just swim in them. I have the 2xU brand and they dry quickly.

I did this too in one of my IM's (under wetsuit).  I had no problems at all with this.  I do not think I would want to take the time in T1 or T2 to put them on.

I put on compression socks in T2 during my last 70.3 as I had developed shin splints prior to the race - the compression really helped on my run. My T2 time was 4:46, which included a stop in the porta potty.

For that particular situation I was glad to trade the ~45 seconds for increased shin comfort for 13.1 miles.

I have only used them once in a race, Ironman, and my T2 time was 25 minutes so I am not the best example of blazing through transition. Although I barely remember putting them since I more focused on convincing myself to not go and lay down next to the ever growing pile of athletes just outside the tent. Don't think I would fool with it on any course shorter than a Full or perhaps a half.

How about compression sleeves? You can wear them throughout the race.

This is what I normally see in my races...just ankle to knee sleeves...

I didn’t used to like to run slow. You begin to recalibrate your needs and wants and if-only you could jog an easy two miles, three times per week. Running is a gift.

So what is the best way to lose weight quickly? Do you simply "starve yourself” by eating as little as possible? The answer depends on your long-term goals.

Should I be working on getting faster at running by doing the longer distances and working up slowly over time or run faster for shorter distances now?

I got a new pair of the same size / brand of shoes and started running on them. On my left foot, the toe next to the big toe starts to get a little painful and goes numb after the first 1-3 miles.

On the long bike rides of 80+ miles I get very strong pain in my toes. I slow down my pace and I might recover, but when I hit the next hill it is back. Could this be some kind of circulation issue?

Does compression clothing really work? Coach AJ was able to try out a line of compression wear by Skins during the 2008 Annual Hawaii Ironman Triathlon.
