AH JEEZ I am listening to a guy make an appointment with a vet to have his dog put down. Apparently the dog has cancer. I wish he would have had that conversation away from my cube

Um, so did YOU! Congrats!!

Thanks!  It was a fun day... especially when I got to the finish line!

That finish line video was absolutely AWESOME!

What did y'all think of the battleship tour?  The ex-Navy part of me was totally geeked, and it also made me even more excited about the teak wood finisher plaques made from the ship's decking.

I absolutely LOVED crossing that finish line!  And I still have NO idea how the heck I had that much energy, or how the hell I really wasn't sore AT ALL after the race.  Whaaaaat?

The ship was amazing.  We were in there for a good 2 hours or so looking at everything and trying to make the ship turn on or something by flipping every switch and turning every dial that would move.  Somehow I think they've had others try that before as nothing actually happened.

Oh - do you have a link for where I can order a finisher plaque?  I was hoping it would be in the email that got sent about finishers gear, but it wasn't.  Pout.

I'm sure I said congrats somewhere in FB.  On of the pics or something.  Think I texted it to Mr. BEBG.  But congrats again.

I LOVE things like the battleship tour.  I did one in Hawaii and could just about imagine running around that ship in WWII, the guns blasting, etc.  The Capt hat pretty nice quarters.  That's what I would like to be!

Ugh.  I hate stuff like this.  I've got a friend who can't find her missing cat right now and they're now on day 3 of driving around looking for it.

I really can't wait until we have a big enough place to be able to have pets, but at the same time... I absolutely dread these kinds of moments.

Thanks Jim!!  Other than the swim and the bike it was a great day!

The battleship was really cool and I'm glad we took the time to go and check it out.  I'm sure we could have spent even more time there, but unfortunately we were running way late on time.  Even being on the ship and seeing the cramped quarters, it was hard to imagine fitting 2000 people into that small amount of space... unless you were the chief petty officer - that dude had a freakin' suite on the ship which was arguably bigger than the captain's quarters. I would want to be that guy!

I'll have to google or ask a squid what that job it to warrant such digs.

I looked at the bunks the regular enlisted got.  SUCKS!  I thought they even have to share with someone (rotate bunks with shifts).  PLEASE tell me they change sheets.  So cramped and no privacy.  YUCK.

former squid here

A Chief Petty Officer is a rank (E-7), then there is the Command Master Chief, who is the highest ranking enlisted guy aboard any ship, and the pecking order typically goes something like Command Master Chief -> God -> Ship's Captain

The "hot racking" (sharing bunks) thing was usually just on submarines, and no, they don't change sheets between shifts.  The racks on the battleship were WAY more cramped than what I slept in... they were stacked five high, my ship only had them stacked three high.  With it being 5 people in a six foot space, you'd be surprised how many guys you could get sleeping in one compartment.... you could easily have 300 in some of those larger spaces.  Privacy is something you just learn to live without.

My brother and I took the tour on Friday, but we got cut short because it closed at 5pm, so we never got to check out much above main deck.

That was SOOOO 3 days ago.

Great going Phil....now it's going to stir that conversation up again....and then Lisa is going to be all "hey I did one too" and the Kido will be like "Me too....and I may do one again" and then Tony comes in with "but I'm faster than everyone".....

Way to mess everything up, Phil. Jeeze....just when I thought it was all over. Like when I did my Ironman.....I didn't think it would ever end, but it did and I finished.

Santa Rosa beach between Panama City and Destin.

Similar to OBX as far as the "feel" goes. Very laid back, not really a "party" vibe... much more chill. Also, one of the best sunsets anywhere.

Oh, and it's where the Truman Show was filmed...which freaked me out the first time I went there.

We are hosting Thanksgiving this year and my wife mentioned she wanted to invite an old family friend. Single guy, late 40's, airline pilot. Apparently I rolled my eyes and made a face even though I thought I was being non reactive. Must be why I lose at poker all the time.

Training our bodies to work efficiently in Zone 2 will help us keep our HR and pace even throughout an Ironman. This theory would hold true for the bike and run portion of an Ironman race.
