Is Silverman officially no more. Does anyone have any inside scoop?

Silverman Long Course appears to be deader than a doornail. I copied the WTC press release about the return of the Silverman 70.3 below. From their recent moves over the last year or so, it seems WTC has decided that there's no market for really tough 140.6 courses anymore. It's disappointing, but I can appreciate that the Silverman full race must have been a money looser. I don't think it ever had more than a few hundred participants, and entry price was much lower than WTC races.

IMO, Silverman and Savageman set the bar for full and half distance races! All of the others are competing for second place in terms of overall race experience.

Premier destination courses around the world will host 70.3 world championships.
Beginning in 2014, the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships will take place at rotating locations across the globe, the World Triathlon Corporation announced today.
“Having the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship change locations from year to year will provide our athletes with the opportunity to race on some of the best courses and in some of the most beautiful places in the world,” said Andrew Messick, chief executive officer of World Triathlon Corporation. “We are looking forward to bringing the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship to some of the top venues globally that will allow for more athletes outside of the United States to participate in a World Championship event.”
The 2014 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship location will be announced in coming weeks. This year's event will be held at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nevada on September 8, representing the third and final year in that location.
Henderson, Nevada will continue to host a yearly 70.3: The IRONMAN 70.3 Silverman triathlon. From 2005-2010, Henderson held both the Silverman Ultra and Long distance triathlons at Lake Mead. During that six-year-run, it drew thousands of competitors and was recognized as one of the toughest courses in North America.
“We are thrilled to welcome back to the city of Henderson a signature event that pays tribute to our Silverman heritage,” said Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen. “It’s truly an inspiration to see the dedication and determination of these athletes as they compete in this elite race.”
The championship race had been previously held in Clearwater, Fla. since its inception in 2006. Each year, more than 1,800 domestic and international competitors have earned the right to compete in the championship by qualifying at an IRONMAN 70.3 event.

As above, it's only the 70.3.  And to boot, it's not really the old Silverman course anymore as the swim is not in Lake Mead.  It's the worlds course

I figured as much. If anyone talks to the RD let him know there are still athletes out there that would love to race it. Even if it was a every 5 year type of thing to possiby increase participation. Im that guy who just want to touch the siverman packs you see at races. Who knows if i could finish. Just hate to see such a great race overwhelmed by WTC type events or whatever happened!

I really like how WTC has developed the 70.3 series, hard courses, good locations, etc. But I feel they are catering to bucket list athletes with easy IM courses. Then again they really could not have done a different course with Boulder, to logistics to get permits in the mountains is damn near impossible, but Chattanooga could have been a hard course, instead flat.

Silverman's return would have been great, don't think it will ever happen.

I am a very slow athlete. I do not get satisfaction on my time. Mostly because my time is nothing to brag about. However, I have found I can endure a lot more than I thought and have satisfaction accomplishing the very hard. It is hard to find full triathlons that have intense elevation profiles. IMLOU is intense IMHO due to heat. But I really don't want to suffer in that way. . St. George was fun but it gone also. I am trying to venture into ultras. However, my knees may be the limiting factor. Bcagle maybe others will agree with us and something crazy will come up!

Slow on the response...sorry
The race and rights for the entire region are now owned by WTC. Henderson/Vegas have agreed to not allow any new races into the area that will use the Lake Mead area longer than an Olympic. Therefore they now have a monopoly on the region.
In regards to the RD and family...they have relocated to Colorado.
The "real" Silverman is no more.

Ummmm, Whistler is reported to be one of the three or four slowest bike courses.  Tahoe has some 9000 feet of climbing at altitude.  Maybe those new IMs out east are easy.  Not the ones out west.

Whistler and Tahoe have get to be raced. And I have heard about 20 different elevation gains from both races, so lets hold off on the real numbers for a bit.

I think many are severely underestimating Tahoe and are caught up in the sights of Tahoe rather then the characteristics of the race.
