Event warmup:

None ... big mistake.
Swim
  • 03m 32s
  • 150 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Terrible. Haven't swam a lap in 5 months. Water was cold, you didn't start in the pool but had to jump in and swim. Gasping the whole way, had to stop at the wall twice.
What would you do differently?:

Just get in the pool, not jump in. Swim a little beforehand.
Transition 1

Comments:

Good
Bike

Excellent bike. No issues, fast the first half, little bit hillier second half.
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Run
  • 15m 42s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Took it way too easy. Could have been much faster.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk

Event comments:

Good for the first year of the event. Very small race, mostly beginners. Went off smoothly.

This is not an easy task, especially for the “9-to-5er” with family. But you can do it – all without sacrificing your marriage, job or family.

Training in the cold can be effective and fun with some planning. Overall, prepare for the environment, stay hydrated and dry, listen to your body and have a great safe cold weather outing.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
