Rattlesnake Triathlon
85F / 29C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 36m 8s
Overall Rank = 61/315
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/16
Swim
  • 21m 58s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pretty sure this course was quite a bit short, I'm not that fast of a swimmer! My Garmin measured .74 miles, for whatever that is worth.
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

Definiitely losing time on transition. Probably time to look into no socks and whatever other tricks folks are using.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 35s
  • 40 kms
  • 30.65 km/hr
Comments:

Except for some construction, loved the smooth asphalt surface.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again, I'm below average on transitions. Proably need to look at the no tie laces, etc.
Run
  • 51m 53s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 11s  min/km
Comments:

It was hot with no shade on the course. I struggled a bit, and ran slower than I hope. I went pretty hard on the bike, but didn't think it was hard enough to cause my run to feel as bad as it did.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably the heat, I train early morning and don't usually deal with it.

Event comments:

Very good race, except for the short swim I really have nothing at all to complain about. The only bummer for me is I left early to get back home and see the family. I don't know if they did age group awards, but by some fluke turns out I was second in my age group!

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
