Subject: New tire on wheel, how?
Just bought my first new tires for my bike and now I'm trying to get them on. The last few inches seem impossible. Any tricks from the seasoned pros? Do I just need to muscle it on as well as let the rubber stretch a little?

Also, both sides of the tire are giving me trouble, should the last tough part only be on one side?

Do you have any tire levers? Those tend to make it easier. Also, is the tube fully inflated? If you let off some pressure it makes it easier to get the tire back on.

Tire Levers, that is the trick.  Use them and that tire should slip on pretty easy.

use tire levers but also learn how to muscle it because you wont always have levers with you and theres almost an art to it.

definately practice without the levers, not only will you loose or forget them, they can break - usually when you're on the road.

tire levers are a wonderfull thing.  Always carry 2 with you when you ride.  Removing the tire is easier with 2 levers and if you do snap one, you still have the second.  I'd have to say if I was on a ride where I snapped two levers, I'd just call it quits.  Obviously Karma is pissed at me and I"m not so sure I want to be riding any more.

The other trick is, if you have open cam skewers, just use the quick release lever.

see the similarity?

sweet idea! i have broken 2 on a ride, and i ended up using the flange on the end of my pump. the end of my qr.. that's genius.

i learned that the hard way.....  I was on a ride where I got a flat and forgot my levers.  Was fighting the tire for 20 min before another rider came along and offered me his levers.  Then as I was buttoning up, he looks down and says "why didn't you just used your QR?"  It was one of those "I'm an idiot, I swear this isn't my first time out on a bike" moments.

Ok, thanks all. I'd been trying with the levers, but I didn't have the technique down. I tried a few different things and then finally remembered the right one. I haven't had to do it in a while because my old tires were so stretched out, they just popped right back on without any force needed. Once I got the right way to do it, the memory of doing it 3 or so years ago popped back in my head. Now to do the other one...

Thanks!!
