I am looking for places and groups that meet to do open water swimming. All of the tris I have done have been pool swims and I'm looking to do two this fall that are open water and need "learn" how to swim in open water. Any suggestions?
Thanks

i saw you found the other thread... but Clemson on Wednesdays at 5-6. typically in the summer there are 4-5 people who show up weekly and do it. maybe not at the same time though, and not very organized like it is at the beginning of the year.

there is also a group that swim at lake jocassee on the weekends sometimes, but i haven't heard from the organizer as to when the next one is.

I too am looking for open water swim groups as well but cannot make it to the Wednesday swims at Lake Hartwell (I have to work until 5 pm and it's an hour and 15 min drive for me) so I would like to find something on the weekends.

The downside to the weekends is the boat traffic on the lakes. Wed night is the best because all of the Baptist are at church.

honestly the best way to get a group going like that is to post up here and maybe on FB to anyone else you know who does triathlons that you will be swimming and inviting others to join you.

if the weather is good i will be out there this weekend, just not sure when.

would love to join others in a OWS and Wednesdays are hard for me to make.

What about a late Sunday afternoon, is boat traffic still bad at about 4?

boat traffic is never really what i would call bad. and you swim up along the shore which most boats stay well away from anyways. if there is a lot of wind you have to worry about sail boats though... they like to steer into the swimming lane at random. i swam out there solo mid afternoon on memorial day weekend and had no problems.

i could probably do 4 on sunday

Thanks for the info. I'd really want to come out one of these Wednesdays to do OWS. I'll post again when I know.
