When i'm sick, my go-to solution is:

1. Drink like a maniac (water and Gatorade).
2. Take a healthy dose of Nyquil, park myself in bed, and get all the sleep I can.

Since you're so close to the tri, I would not do any training whatsoever. You're not going to make or break your race in 96 hours.

Lots of fluids, lots of rest.

Good thing is you've put in the training already, so rest up now and feel better!!

Having been in your shoes for my first Tri, I feel your angst.

Drink a lot of water and juice with high Vit C. Eat a lot of chicken noodle soup (homemade if possible) and rest, rest, rest. Cross your fingers and hope the illness breaks the morning of your race.

Don't do any training.

I am not one to go to the doctors. i usually try and just deal with the colds with rest and taking it easy. I had a cold a couple of months ago and couldn't shake it. Congestion, headache, stuffy nose for a good 4-5 days straight. Tried some tylenol, 44d they didn't work. Talk to my mother (of course mothers know best) and she said that she recently used mucinex and had great results. I bought some and took it in the evening and by the next morning i was feeling a ton better and by the end of the day I felt back to normal. Not saying it will work for you like it did me, but it made me a believer. Good luck and rest up.

ZINC.

Cold-eeze lozenges, sold at your local drug/grocery store.

Read the package: Not on empty stomach, no citrus.

Start taking them yesterday.

ive tried cold eeze but they do a number on my stomach even when full. the mucinex is pseudoephedrine in a timed release capsule. thanks, it's working pretty well but i feel dizzy & would not take it on race day. a problem for me is that the intensive 6 day a week training schedule is great but when i stop for more than a day everything tightens up (even with stretching & yoga) and the back (specifically the QL and SI joint area) goes into spasm. strangely enough running at least a little bit every day keeps that area calm and flexible

While regular and moderate exercise such as light jogging has been shown to boost immune system function, more vigorous exercise can suppress the immune system.

Now, for the last 20 years I’ve always though that jogging seemed about as interesting as watching paint dry, and you know what? That’s how it turned out to be.

I’m a 240lb man, and I run relatively long distances. How would you recommend training for marathon and IM distances as heavy as I am?

A Navy Seals program modified specifically for triathletes. This workout is DIFFICULT!!! The weight training portion alone may make you cry.

It makes no sense to train hard for a year to hone that aerobic system only to have all that training undermined by a few anaerobic bursts on race day. So, how do you go about it?

Byrn won’t hold your hand through the long hours and miles required finishing or for success in an IM, he can only show you how to get there. The work is up to you.
