Age Group Rank = 84/160
Pre-race routine:

2 pop tarts, heed, water, salt tick capsule,
Event warmup:

2 mile run, 200 m swim warm up, yoga stretching
Swim
  • 25m 39s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

Lots of thrashing when we got to the bridge,as everyone had to narrow down to fit under it. Lost track of second return buoy, which cost me about extra 25-50 yds to correct
What would you do differently?:

SIght the return buoys better and think about where I am supposed to be
Transition 1
  • 04m 15s
Comments:

wetsuit got stuck on right heel and cost big time.
What would you do differently?:

Use Trislide on legs
Bike
  • 1h 06m 54s
  • 40 kms
  • 36.31 km/hr
Comments:

First hill was OK. Big bump to get onto highway was bad and unexpected. Had to check for flats, especially on disc wheel. Climb over bridge was long and steady. Winds were a little gusty on the bridge. Was not able to sustain target power level. Hit turn around well and return trip over the bridge was tough.
What would you do differently?:

Plan my effort out more evenly, to account for the bridge climbs. Maybe go with 808 tubulars instead of heavier disc wheel
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

T2 had a long run to get to the rack
What would you do differently?:

Kept good apce on run with bike. Racked quickly and got shoes on fast. No socks.
Run
  • 48m 18s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 53s  min/km
Comments:

I had no power left on the run. Don't know why. I did not over-exert on the bike and the course was flat. Just did not have a good day on the run. Felt a little cramping, but nothing major.
What would you do differently?:

Run some more intervals in the weeks leading up the race. Practice hitting bricks harder.
Post race
Warm down:

stretching and re-hydation

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad T1 and poor run

For most age-group triathletes, getting the most out of there time for quality workouts can be daunting. Think outside the triangle to get a little more.

The start of the race I had the jitters. I was watching the other age groups start as they seeded the swim with over 1000 participants.
