Sunny
Total Time = 3h 21m 38s
Overall Rank = 1130/1442
Age Group = F 30-34
Age Group Rank = 102/144
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4am. Cereal with a banana and soy milk. Awful coffee from gas station... two sips and threw it out.

Event warmup:

Quick warmup on bike, run, good stretching, quick warmup in water.`
Swim
  • 37m 35s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

First hundred yards were OK, then had a hard time catching breath. Took way too long to get into groove. When I finally did, I kept hooking left! Ugh.
What would you do differently?:

Start out slower, if that is at all possible, so that I don't start to hyperventilate. Need more OW practice, and more practice with speed.
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

Couldn't get out of darned wet suit. Thing really fits like a glove. ;-) Felt a little discombobulated (sp?)...
What would you do differently?:

Have practiced getting out of suit again, go through T1 in practice so its really down.
Bike
  • 1h 37m 11s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 16.11 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Practice this ride more. Get aero bars so I don't have to get in the drops. Remember to check seat positioning!
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

By this time was having major stomach issues, so didn't know what to do. Liner came out of shoe also, tried to put it back in and then decided screw it... so ran without. Amazingly enough, only got one blister. Oh, and the foot with the liner was the one that was hotter and more sore! Go figure...
What would you do differently?:

Remember which row I'm in!
Run
  • 1h 01m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

After having decided to NOT go to the bathroom at TA, I headed out on the run. Not a good idea... I eyed every bush, every nook and cranny for a possible pit stop, a possible hidden area that I could get an inkling of privacy. It was wiiiide open spaces out there.
All in all, I was able to keep running with a short walk break here and there. Was to be expected given my cramping.
I was super pleased with NO ITB pain, and no lower back pain (yippee)... also this was very well staffed for water and gatorade.

What would you do differently?:

Need to figure out nutritional needs for next time.
Post race
Warm down:

After being draped by the ice cold annual Boulder Peak towel, I walked over to the grass... collapsed... and streeeeeeetched out my body. Chatted with some friends and then headed out to a yummy breakfast/lunch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training
Nutrition issues/stomach cramping
Screwed up bike seat lead to back spasm

Event comments:

Excellent event. Great course. Very well staffed! Will be back for long course and again next year.

Course: First 8 miles are uphill, gradual and then a monster climb up Lee Hill into Old Stage (15% grade for 2/3rds mile.) I felt like I was going to hurl! Seated was better than out of saddle. Rest of bike felt just GREAT until I hit 63rd. This gave me a hard time last time too. Came to find out my seat was all out of whack and lower back went into spasms. Last 6 miles of race were downright painful... both in my back and because of how slow I was going!

A few aches and pains... outside of left knee, right calf and hamstring. And perhaps a little sunburn on my neck. Thank goodness no back pain!!!!

Great job out there!!!
