So Lady Bird Lake is a NO SWIMMING zone but the TriRock swim portion is in Lady Bird Lake.

Whats the deal?

Anyone with local knowledge? Reports make it sound unsafe due to underwater debris.

Thanks for any info...

David

They give special permission to some events like TriRock and CapTX to hold swimming events in Lady Bird Lake. I've done this race twice (and am doing it again this year), and I have never noticed much of a problem. With that said, some kind of weed has started growing in patches in different parts of the lake that would probably make swimming difficult. I don't know if the weed is on the swim course, but I imagine TriRock is aware of it and will do something about it if its a potential problem.

Thanks Mindy!

This is my first Olympic distance race and the swim is my most "need to improve event" so...

Maybe we will see you there.

Have a great race!

Many peopkle swim in the lake off paddle boards and Kayaks mainly just to cool off. Today there were a ton of paddle boards out. I took my son and daughter. There is some type of weed growing infact this weed was in many spots in the lake. The water was clear and nice. I have done the Captex and Tri rock. The weeds have never been a problem when I did the Tri's. I did my first Olympic at Austin Tri., you picked a great venue. Good luck

I recall reading somewhere that they open up the dam some to raise the water level for those races which apparently helps with debris (and I would imagine the weeds, too)....could be making that up though! The year I did Tri Rock Austin (before it was tri rock ), if you stayed in the middle, the weeds were not an issue. If you moved to the side some, you might feel them, but still weren't an issue in my opinion.

Fun course and venue...enjoy!
