Hartford Marathon Foundation

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 00m 9s
Overall Rank = 251/425
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 15/31
Pre-race routine:

The usual - try to eat 2 hours before start time. No bananas in the house :( So just toast and peanut butter. For the last two days I've been feeling a little acidy - probably going to start a round of prilosec tonight and I'm due for a physical anyway.
Event warmup:

None really to speak of. I stretched before we left the house, stretched a little when we got there.
Run
  • 1h 00m 9s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a pretty good run - it was a PR for me. Tried to keep my speeds in check (I have a tendency to go out too fast). I made a decision a while ago that if I ever saw a camera, no matter what event, no matter how BAD I felt at the time, I would smile and maybe wave. As a result - I've got some great pics :)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really - I wanted to get in under an hour. Missed it by 9 seconds! LOL
Post race
Warm down:

I always feel crappy when I cross the finish line but walking for a few minutes helped. Then we always go out to breakfast after. Right after we finished eating my stomach HURT. I excused myself to the ladies room.........then I felt better after but as we were leaving I got really light headed and had to sit down for a few minutes - head between the knees and all. Then I was ok and we went to the grocery store. I just feel wiped out now.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness

Event comments:

Another good HMF event.

Very good going, shame you missed your target time, but at least you were MOP for your AG, better than BOP. As for the light headed-ness, may be a good idea to get your bloods checked. If the run was for longer, I'd put it down to possible glycogen depletion, but I seriously doubt it would be that n this case, especially if you had brekkie.

Have you checked iron level? Just because.....woman of a certain age....extra exercise......iron deficiencies .....hope I haven't offended.

Looks like you pushed pretty hard, given a PR and a completely wiped out feeling. Keep on keeping on.

Damn speedee, Randee Manatee was a little worried about the rehab your legs have gone through, but you did awesome and all the right recovery things, too.

Running does not cause injury. Poor running form does. Running is more enjoyable, and safer if you know what you’re doing. And yes, even old dogs can learn new tricks.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
