Couldnt' seem to get myself together for most of the swim. Water was calm but I was not so missed several breaths.
What would you do differently?:

Calm down and try to ease into my pace better
Transition 1

Comments:

Mt bike so did it in running shoes, no clip in. T1 went pretty well for me, I was methodical and calm, it was a long run from water to T1.
What would you do differently?:

hurry
Bike
  • 59m 9s
  • 11 kms

Comments:

Mt bike course so speed was all over the map. It sure felt like a lot of uphill to me but a good challenging course
What would you do differently?:

train more
Transition 2

course ended with single track so had to follow people in, it went fine. Rode w running shoes so racked bike, helmet off, time to run!
What would you do differently?:

not much

Comments:

this was tough! After really having to ride hard just to get through the course, the run was going to be painful. I tried to slow down and relax but ended up having to walk some of this.
What would you do differently?:

slow down a little more so I could keep running
Post race
Warm down:

walk around and drink water and FRS

What limited your ability to perform faster:

NO training in the last 2 weeks due to work hours

Event comments:

This was a great race! I've never done a Mt bike tri before and it was really tough going especially on the run. The only thing I dind't care for was that I had bought a lunch ticket and there was no drink included, no water or soda or anything included and I thought that was a bit cheesy. Otherwise, a great time and I have this race on my calendar for next year already.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

A Walmart bike, a borrowed road bike or a new carbon fiber bike? You don't need to break the bank for your first triathlon bike.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

The XTERRA off-road triathlons consist of a lake swim, a mountain bike trail ride, and a trail run. I decided to try the AZ Xtreme Desert XTERRA Tri as my 1st off-road triathlon, and my 3rd tri ever.

Well I said that I was not going to do it this season, but I cracked. I broke down and bought a new bike. I went out and bought a shiny new Cannondale road bike.
