Hoping to sign up to IMWI for 2014!! Hoping there are slots available to public online. Originally posted by tarmac52 Geez!, I'm hoping I can pee on the side of the road or something!! I don't need a porta potty, but I don't really want to pee in my pants either. Seriously, you can't just jump off the bike and find a tree or a bush? Is that illegal in the Ironman, I hope not!! Technically no nudity, but it's HIGHLY unlikely a race official is going to ride by at the exact moment your pants are down I have pulled the pants down to pee behind a tree, too - whatever works! Yup I'm back for my 2nd year Struggling a little with my long runs after an IM in July but getting there. Another guy in for Chicago, what corrals are you guys starting in? Expert 924 Western WI | Subject: RE: Peeing on the bike. Originally posted by SEADOCHA I did IMKY a couple days ago and peed on the bike 6 times! I was making sure I wasn't going down because of hydration! lol. At first I put my butt off to the side, but later I was just going sitting on the seat. Ya, it goes in your shoes, but you quickly forget about it about 5-10 minutes later. For the most part it's water and warm water, but I'm not the only one doing it. I can't imagine the time I would have lost if I got off 6 times! Pee on the bike! It's part of Ironman! good for you! I tried sooo hard and just couldnt! I wasted 10 miles worth of downhills because I'd coast and try to pee! Finally I just decided to get off and hide behind a tree. grrr... that is my goal for next year. |

I find it funny that everyone who considers peeing on the bike is always concerned with getting pee on their shoes but never worried about peeing on the tops of their water bottle on the frame and then drinking from it. Just a word to the wise, after you pee on the bike make sure you do a little squirt down with water and not gatorade or infinit. ...and I pee on the bike in halfs and fulls but don't really have the need in sprints or Olympics. |

Better solution is to squirt down your water bottle on the down tube instead of your crotch. My bibs would be dry in 5 minutes. Extra salty drink is not cool! I never peed on the bike until I started training for a full. The first time was hard. Next time easier. After a month, I couldn't stop peeing on the bike! |

Member 242 Co Louth, Ireland | Subject: RE: Peeing on the bike. Peed one the bike for the first time during my first IM distance race a few weeks ago - just found a slight downhill, leant to the side and let go! yeah some gets in your tri shoes - I was soaked anyway from 3hrs of rain so it made no difference! Had planned on changing socks for the run so no issues there, no chaffing problem to report either - as some one else said at that stage of the race its pretty much just water anyway!! |

I've only done a half and didn't need to pee on the bike or run but omg, the chafing just from having peed in my wetsuit! It lasted for so long and was the most painful after effect of doing a half. I felt like a toddler with severe diaper rash. |

I have peed in the wetsuit many more times. I have never chafed from peeing in my wetsuit. Or from peeing on the bike for that matter, but I don't think peeing your wetsuit was the cause of your chafing. |

I don't unless it's really windy, gonna run into your shoes. And even though it may be mostly water (depending), a little tip: don't shove them into your tri bag, throw the tri bag into the back of the car, and drive home for 4 hours in the hot sun just sayin |

New user 105 | Subject: RE: Peeing on the bike. Originally posted by lisac957 For any ladies reading... I have a really hard time emptying my bladder trying to pee on the bike. I can start to pee (after 5 or 6 attempts) but some reflex makes me stop after about 5 seconds. So in my last Ironman I pulled off behind a tree or bush, kept my shorts on, and squatted in the grass. Same idea - no waiting in line for a porta potty - but a MUCH better result. As a dude reading through this I am wondering why it seems the only two options are peeing on yourself or waiting in line. And by the time I got to your post I already made up my mind. If there is line at the porta potty, I'll be using the tree/bush method. There's just something a yourself... |

Master 2404 Redlands, CA | Subject: RE: Peeing on the bike. Pee'd seven times my last IM. That's stopping, getting in line and using the porta potties. After the race I added everything up, and it was somewhere around 30-35 minutes time loss. Even for a someone not competing for a slot its a ton of time to lose. That being said next time I plan on doing it on the bike but I'm going to try it with my foot elevated so it pours off the knee (heard this tip on a podcast). |

Do you all stand and go? Sit? Stop pedaling? For the guys, do you hike up the tri shorts or just go in them?
This is what I have done; Wait for a nice downhill stretch |

Subject: RE: Peeing on the bike. At IM Canada I actually left one sock in a portapotty cuz the idea of 6 hours in a pee soaked (well, mostly water at that point) sock kinda grossed me out. |
