Subject: Adding lights to a tri bike?

As I plan my return to training, I'm faced with the challenge of fitting bike rides in before work in the morning.  With fall quickly approaching though, it's getting pretty dark.  I've started looking into lights that I can quickly clip onto my ride, but given that I don't have round handlebars or a round seatpost I haven't found much.

Anyone have any great solutions?

I've been using a helmet mounted light system from Light and motion (the Vis 360)- which includes a front headlight and a rear red blinky.  They've got a number of different systems in different brightnesses- and all are well made, well designed units.  but they're like $150 or up.  I used it last winter and have been using it for morning rides so far this year.  It's great in that it mounts on your helmet (I have a second helmet just for it), so it's always pointing where you're looking, and you don't need to worry about how to mount it on your aero bars- but I want more light.  So, my plan is to still use the Vis 360 on my helmet, and supplement with these dirt cheap items:

these additional tail lights mounted vertically on my seat stay.

And then add an additional 1200 lumen light on the bottom of one of my aero bars.  i was told on another forum that you can unscrew the mount for this light, and turn it 90 degrees so that it will work on aero bars.

You'll now find a lot of these chinese knockoffs of the magicshine CREE T6 lights out there.  They use the CREE diode and are sicko, fry your retnina bright.  I also spent another $4.95 for the diffuser to give a broader light pattern.  Not sure if that's necessary- but I'll check it out when it comes in the mail.

I figure I'll be so annoying going down the road that cars will want to hit me.

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

The triathlon bike vs. road bike quandary. Before you even ask the road bike vs. tri bike question, you should have a couple sprint triathlons or duathlons under your belt.

A bike is NOT a piece of metal with a couple of wheels at either end and a steering thing to stop you running over old ladies. No! ... a bike is a space-age “weapon of mass confusion.”
