Sunny
Total Time = 2h 58m 25s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/6
Pre-race routine:

We were late. That has to stop happening. Had a long discussion on the way -perhaps we should take separate cars.
Event warmup:

NONE. No time. I barely made it to the start line at 6:59. HR elevated and way to anxious. Completely off my game.
Swim
  • 30m 33s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought my time should have been better than this. Oh well.
Transition 1
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Mount was a mess. I stopped on the line like I didn't know what to do.
What would you do differently?:

Get it together.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 43s
  • 25 miles
  • 20.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Took about 10 miles to get my heart rate settled down. Again, just a terrible start being so rushed.
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Zoned out and didn't come out of shoes until later than normal. Basically stopped the bike and stepped off. Just terrible mount and dismount today.
Run
  • 1h 10m 44s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

There wasn't much run to it, which was terrible. I was ready for a good run. I think starting out with a high HR and never really getting it under control set me up for a lousy run with too high of a HR.
Post race
Warm down:

More like cool off. I had cramps in my feet. That was new. My toes were curling under so bad I could not get my flip flops on. Otherwise I felt fine once I was in the shade with a cold drink.

Event comments:

Great people, venue and flat fast course. It was just a crappy day for me and the heat did me in on the run.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

The consensus is that caffeine does enhance performance and decreases perceived exertion in endurance exercise. There are no significant performance benefits in short, high-intensity exercise.

It’s a challenge to push yourself a little harder and a little further. Be proud of every workout that is accomplished and every step-even the baby ones-that you take on this course to the finishline.
