Midwest Meltdown Triathlon
Total Time = 3h 22m 7s
Overall Rank = 73/73
Age Group =
Age Group Rank = 8/8
Pre-race routine:

Usual routine of bagel and cream cheese a couple of hours before and some chomps about 45 minutes before the race.

I think I need to find a new nutrition option then chomps. They have left me burping during the race...
Event warmup:

A light swim once the first wave got in the water and waited to start.
Swim
  • 37m 42s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

Overall I felt good about the swim. I was in the back half of the MOP. I always use the first couple of hundred to warm up but I think I can push harder. I never felt tired during the swim and it's one of my better swim times for the distance
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster in the beginning.
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

Transition was slow. I felt good during the swim but I was tired when I got out.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on my aerobic endurance.
Bike
  • 1h 23m 27s
  • 40 kms
  • 28.78 km/hr
Comments:

The bike didn't start off well. I just couldn't recover from the swim so my first 5 miles was really rough. I also didn't take in enough fluid which really screwed me in the run
What would you do differently?:

Make sure to keep taking in fluid.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

This transition went well for me.
Run
  • 1h 17m 18s
  • 5 miles
  • 15m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

THis run was the worst run I've ever had. Ever. I didn't take enough fluid and by the time I started my run I could tell I wasn't going to do well. I was tired and hurting .
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate and work more on hot weather running.
Post race
Warm down:

Again I was the last to cross the finish line. And while that can be discouraging I was proud of myself for finishing. By mile two I was ready to pack it up and go home but I pressed on.

Event comments:

The race was well run and the course is a nice course. If we could have started earlier it would have made things a little easier with the heat.

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
