Anyone doing the Lone Star Sprint ... or has anyone done it before?

I am signed up and it will only be my second triathlon. I'm a little worried about the swim portion of the course just because I have zero open water racing experience. I have been practicing OWS at a local lake. Anything else I should be prepared for?

Thanks in Advance!

It should be a fairly easy OWS.  It's generally pretty flat back there.  The bike could be windy.  Other than that it's flat and fast.

If you've been in a lake you should be fine. Never done the sprint version but the 70.3 course only gets windy in the spring. Salty water so more flotation than the lake!

I'm in for the sprint! I was going to do the Olympic but decided I wasn't ready for that distance yet, primarily because of the swim portion. The bike is going to be windy. If it feels really easy going out, be prepared for it to feel super hard on the way back in! If you have a chance, ride the bike course before hand to get a feel for it. It's an easy out and back but I'm glad to have some experience with those winds before the race.

I'm going to meet some friends this Saturday morning down at Moody Gardens and attempt to do some swimming in the bay if you're interested.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?
