Pre-race routine:

Relaxed - ate 2 packs of maple brown sugar oatmeal + banana and drank 2 gatorade G's and ate 1 cliff bar.
Swim
  • 1h 06m 4s
  • 3900 meters
  • 01m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

Enjoyed the swim course. Water water was clear and the swim area was marked nice with support on both sides. Did not realize how far I was until I realized I was at marker 8. Only thing that sucked was the fact I got punched in the mouth at the start and had pain in my jaw rest of day. Swam about 6m away from markers in open water entire time.

Was surprised by the chop that got kicked up at some points thanks to the power boats, caught me off guard and got a mouth full of water
What would you do differently?:

Ensure wetsuit and tri shorts are on correct to ensure no pinching occurs it really sucked stopping to re-adjust during the swim.

Go out a little harder
Transition 1
  • 11m 22s
Comments:

Happy considering I did a complete change.
What would you do differently?:

I would drink a little, and put shoes on when I get to the bike, instead of running with them on.
Bike
  • 6h 24m 2s
  • 180 kms
  • 28.10 km/hr
Comments:

Great course, really enjoyed it. Have been cycling for 1 year, owned a bike. I had set my bike up to climb and was glad I did as I found no problem on the hills actually passed lots of people. AT km 140 stomach started to go a little and had to slow down my cadence which sucked cause I wanted to go especially on the 117.
What would you do differently?:

Would of started to take my salt a little sooner, and gone to perform on the first loop for a bit. Practice more descents with my race wheels, as I found myself a little uncomfortable at times and had to come out of AERO.
Transition 2
  • 06m 39s
Run
  • 6h 07m 16s
  • 26.22 miles
  • 14m  min/mile
Comments:

1st ever marathon.... BLEW UP. Did not drink enough on my first lap as I allowed my stomach to settle from the bike as I was focused on being on pace for a 5 hour marathon. On the second lap got to the 3rd aid station and was asked if I drank enough. Reminded me to drink and so did my support crew as they said I looked not good. Walked it in, but ran the village.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate.... Ensure I kept it going.. Also would not of taken the "warm soup" as it burned my throat which sucked the next two days eating.
Post race
Warm down:

Medic tent... rest to recover as did not feel great. Drank lots of liquid (3 bottles in area) + 4 gatorades upon going back to condo.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1st ever race, and had no idea what my pace would be, could of gone harder in first 2 disciplines. The heat took a toll on me as well. Dealing with my salt issues.

Event comments:

Amazing Race and great time in Tremblant.

During the race there will be plenty of opportunities to exchange bottles, so I'm thinking about going with the aero bottle and Gatorade bottle and fill up as necessary. What should I do?

If a heart patient can do these things, then so can those of you who haven't been split open like a fish and sewn back together.
