Pre-race routine:

Usual.
Event warmup:

Did my usual 1 run warmup but this year I swam across to the starting line to get a longer swim warmup.
Swim
  • 05m 53s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Why do people sprint the swim start? I had people grabbing at my legs the first 50yards and then after 200 I looked back and nobody. Why waste all that energy?
I naturally veer to the right but today I must have done something different or the course curved as I ended up 20ft to the left at about the 300yard mark. Oops.
I had the fastest swim of the day which at a DQ event doesnt' mean much but I consider it a PR as I've never done that before so I'm taking it.
What would you do differently?:

swim straight.
Transition 1
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

I tuck my goggles and ear plugs inside my cap and then pull it inside my sleeve but today it all came out the other end. Never happened in my years of racing. Luckily, Zobel was in transition doing a relay and picked up my goggles.
Bike
  • 25m 44s
  • 11 miles
  • 25.97 mile/hr
Comments:

Another race without power but the time is by far my best for this course.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Run
  • 18m 28s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 05m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran without a watch. Just tried to stay mentally engaged and kept reminding myself the Ken is a faster runner so I need to stay on the gas, no slacking.
Post race
Event comments:

Chuck puts on a well run, efficient race. Love racing, having a beer at the finish and being home by 11am.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
