Sunny
Total Time = 1h 47m 25s
Overall Rank = 143/193
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 13/21
Pre-race routine:

Usual pre-race breakfast, nothing else special.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 18m 26s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not bad for having a broken left arm. Left arm did little to no pulling, just moved it through the water to keep going.
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

Took my time, but probably didn't need to. First race of the year, so I was a little extra careful with things. Difficultly mounting bike due to broken left arm, so I had to stop and take my time with that. Otherwise no problems.
Bike
  • 49m 20s
  • 20 kms
  • 24.32 km/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good, tried to push hard on the hills. Backed off a couple times, but otherwise pushed on. Left arm was pretty stiff throughout the ride, and my back started to ache near the end (I assume due to being slightly off balance favoring my broken arm).
Transition 2
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Same as with T1, had to be careful dismounting, came to a complete stop and swing my leg over to avoid hurting my arm. Still managed to twist it a little funny but nothing too painful. Had to sit down and had some trouble pulling my socks on due to my left arm being pretty useless in the endeavor.
Run
  • 35m 33s
  • 5 kms
  • 07m 07s  min/km
Comments:

Took it easy on the run. Left a lot in the tank. Walked twice for about 10 seconds (not including the aid stations), due my calf muscles tightening up and trying to stretch them out. I'm okay with not pushing harder though, today was not about putting in an all out effort on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Broken arm, extra weight, not enough training.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

In addition to writing your race number on each upper arm, they also wrote your age on your calf. This allowed me to see who was passing me by in the bike section of this race.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

You’re probably not going to get it just right immediately. Like always, just do the best you can and keep on keeping on. Don’t get upset if you don’t hit the target every time.
