Yep.  5150 and Oilman left on the schedule before I start to focus on the Houston Marathon.

I am doing the Olympic, Did the sprint last year(it was hot,but It's not the heat that will get you—it's the humidity)....

Hi Justin cramps(lack of bricks) and tummy problems(drank too much Gatorade) killed my time , but still was able to finish decent atleast not last in my AG. Wanna comeback and correct those at 5150.

I am also trying to fix get my schedule to go to Kerrville.

Cramps are rarely if ever from lack of bricks, and how much Gatorade did you take in?  On a day like Monday (see hot and humid) you want to take in at least a bottle an hour on the bike and then a cup at every aid station.  You may not have conditioned your body to handle the nutrition, but that doesn't mean that you took in too much.  Not trying to be an a$$ by the way, but I see too many people mess up races longer than a sprint with really bad nutrition plans.

Just booked a hotel in Texas City to save some dough over ones in Galveston.  Still closer than Cypress.  LOL.

I just came back from Hy-Vee 5150 US Nationals after qualifying last year in Galveston. It was the best short course (<70.3) race I have ever competed in. Not to mention I was on the course with Olympians from London including the OA race winner, Javier Gomez. If not for my extended season I would have included 5150 Galveston just to go back and race the US Championship again. As far as Galveston, like all hot+humid Texas races, be prepared and hydrated. That includes the days leading up to the race, not just during the race. I've been using a combination of Heed and Skratch in the bottles, Gatorade doesn't work for me in the heat. I'll also use one Gu gel at the beginning and another at the 1/2 way point of the 10 k around 20 mins.

You should have you race nutrition down through practice BEFORE racing and not attempting to guess during the race potentially sabotaging all your training hours.

I'm signed up and it'll be my first Olympic distance race! I've been battling achilles tendonitis for about 5-6 weeks, so I lost a lot of training in August. I'll finish but I don't think I will meet my original goal times.

I'm doing the Olympic, but haven't done this one before so I don't have much to say. I know a woman who did it last year, but all I heard was complaints about the mosquitos. We're staying in a beach house down in Jamaica Beach, so I'm looking forward to the weekend.

I think the roads are very nice for the bike, especially for a race in TX. That's what I've heard from folks who have done the 70.3.

This will be my first race with a Saturday bike check in, that will feel weird.

And black swim caps for us old guys. That'll get hot, plus I never saw the point of black swim caps from a safety standpoint.

You could always do like the pros did at IMTX and just pop it off "inadvertently" once you get going.

there tends to be a lot debris on the shoulder. I flatted twice the one ride I did out there. The new course is nice because it keeps us a little protected from the wind for the first few miles.

Wind is looking to be almost a straight headwind on the way back into town so it will be a relief to get off the seawall.

I really want to do an Olympic distance but I feel it is a little too far right now. Which training plan should I follow? The sprint sounds too easy for what I'm doing but the Olympic seems too much?

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Keep in mind that the taper period is as important to your body as all of the long hours you’ve put in the pool, on the bike and on the road. It is meant to help you rest, recover and rejuvenate.
