So this will be my first tri experience, but I am doing it as a relay doing the swim leg. The other girls are ladies that I train with. I am pretty excited.

awesome! this'll be my first too. i hope the swim leg doesn't get cancelled. i've heard the water is really polluted this week... condition "red", meaning no activities permitted.

i spoke too soon... that was yesterday! today it says the conditions are "green"... i guess the current was just too fast from last week's rain. hopefully we won't get too many t-storms this week and the water will be ok.

do you have a goal as far as time goes? i'm hoping to be sub 1:45:00. i'd be satisfied with that, for a first tri.

since I am just doing the swim i haven't thought much about goals. I just want to finish. I have had no open water practice ( I know bad bad me) SO I am hoping that I can just keep my cool and do close to what I do in the pool which is around 17 min. but I have no idea how that is going to fly. but your goal sounds good. The whole thing is just a little bit long for a sprint. I will be rooting for you too

Everyone getting excited for the race? I know I am. Last year I got a flat 3.5 miles into the bike portion and didn't have a spare tube with me Lucky for me it isn't a USAT race so I was able to get help and finished (albeit slow). I'm crossing my fingers for no flats this year!

Good Luck Everyone! :D

So I am exicited, but the water is in the red again, I am sure last night's storm didn't help.

i know....... i'm all bummed now. they expect more heavy t-storms tonight (possible)... i wonder if they just make it a duathlon if it's red on sun? that'd stink... after all this training... still not officially a triathlete if they switch it. o well... just hope for the best. what would you do if you're in the relay? just hang out?

I hope the water gets back in the green. the Swim is my 2nd best leg and I'd hate to lose it especially if it becomes a du and we have to run. I suck at running.

I'm not sure how they'll do it, but other races I've done become Duathlons with a run-bike-run. Usually the first run is shorter (2ish miles) and the rest is just like a regular tri.

I've certainly not trained for a du, I dont even know if I could do it! :P

i've done a couple brick workouts where i do "repeats"... 5 mi bike, 2 mi run... 5 mi bike, 2 mi run... just to get used to the change in muscle use... so i guess i can do it. but it's a bummer b/c this would be (/have been) my 1st tri...

yeah, I've done bike to run bricks but no run to bike. oh, well.

Lets just hope the river gets clean and we can swim! It sucks that your first tri might become a du, but then you can say you're an official duathlete! Thats still something!

ya... that's true. i'm such a terrible swimmer, and put in a good number of hours in the pool (for a beginner...) doing 2,000-3,000 yards at a pop, just to get comfortable... and i coulda been in bed sleeping! ...or better yet, riding! hehehe...

swimming is I would stay my strong suit, not tha is much of a strong suit, but that is what I was placing my hopes on, I STINk at running, but if it only 2 miles then i will do it. Fingers crossed for green, but after yet more rain this afternoon I am not holding my breath. Wonder when they will make the call though.

pez....... foirst in women? awesome!!! go you! which wave did you swim in? since this was my first, i did the last one, and finished about in the middle. it wasn't as bad as i thought, once i got into a rhythm. i finished right around where my goal was... 1:45:13. did pretty well on the bike, but it was so hot for the run! i'm just waiting to see what my splits were! hopefully it'll be up soon! vixen... how'd you do???

Yeap we ended up being the first womean's relay out of 3 teams. I am so pumped up about it. I went in the 3rd wave. I would have done the 2nd, but since it was my first I thought I would flub it up, which I did to a degree, but I now feel so much better for my first one on my own in two weeks. we came in 122 overall. My swim ended up being  19:02 so I was around top 1/3 for that. Good enough for me. Your time looks good to me. There where still people starting the run when we where packing up to leave. It was really really hot, I did not envy everyone running.

Lums pond is a great race (I did it last year) Its a really easy course (the bike has no hills!) but the water is nasty (the downside to swimming in a lake instead of a river) and it was so hot/humid that people were literally puking during the run. Make extra sure you stay hydrated! Good Luck!!

yuk! worse than the schuylkill?

is it flatter than the philly one we just did? i can't imagine it being much more flat than that! hopefully it won't be quite as hot this time... i'm looking forward to my 2nd ever tri! unfortunately, i think it'll be my last one for the year. gotta start prep for the philly distance run.
