Sunny
Total Time = 1h 16m 38s
Overall Rank = 51/685
Age Group = F3539
Age Group Rank = 11/105
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:45, then drove over with Mike. Setup in transition and hung out waiting for the start.
Event warmup:

None, which is typical for me.
Swim
  • 13m 29s
  • 440 yards
  • 03m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

I have done virtually zero swim training all year, so the goal was just to slog through this and get it over with. I'm convinced this course is a bit longer than advertized.
What would you do differently?:

I'll likely put in some training before I do this course again, but otherwise not much. I'm generally pretty slow regardless...
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

This went fine. Mike said he tried to walk over from the swim to catch me before I left on the bike, but I was already gone. Speedy! :)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, this went fine.
Bike
  • 34m 37s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.33 mile/hr
Comments:

Not too shabby, but considering I had the fastest time overall when I did this race two years ago, my lack of training this year was evident. I didn't mind that much though since I knew I wasn't in top shape so I just tried to have fun. Got hung up behind some cars for a bit, which was kind of annoying...
What would you do differently?:

Train more! My rides have been pretty few and far between lately.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

This went fine. I was happy to see that no one had dumped anything in the bike racks, which seems to happen a lot with the setup they have at this race.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 25m 36s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

While I've started getting back my running, I'm not nearly back to where I've been the past couple of years. Regardless, this actually went better than I'd expected, so that was nice. Hopefully I can come back and nail it next year!
What would you do differently?:

Like the bike, train more. This has been a lazy year for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much, just hung out with Mike for a bit, then packed up and headed out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I've been completely lazy for the past 12 months since my IM. I just hired a coach and am hoping that this time next year I'll have gotten my motivation back and will regain my previous fitness. Losing the 5-10 lbs. I've gained in the last year wouldn't hurt either!

Event comments:

This is a great race. It's kine of fun to race against just other women. It does attract a lot of beginners though too, which is great, but I think artificially bumps up my placement. Overall though, it's a fun atmosphere and I plan to do it again next year!

I started training for triathlons in my early 20's but never entered one. Twenty years later found me still a newbie, with many extra pounds, much more humility and a healthy dose of reality.
