~5 days away!

I had a great time last year. Nervously looking forward to this one. It's going to be my first Olympic distance.

Good Luck and I'll be there too.
Looks like this race wont be a mass start from reading the event details.

This will be my second year there, great race.  It'll be interesting with the dock / TT start.  I wish oly was starting first again but I guess you can't have it all.

Good luck.

See you there.
I did the sprint last year, great race and venue, well run.
Doing the Oly this year, last year was a floating start, has the format changed? Guess I should read the details.

There's a few things diferent this year: start - mandatory Saturday bike drop off (which you need to print a parking pass for).

Also while I'm sure it will be better this year there was a lot of confusion on the oly bike course for 2012.  A bunch of people missed the exit and ended doing some extra mileage.  I'm not one to typically study the maps before a race but I look a little closer now.

He built in some floating docks this year, so it won't be a "treading water" start.
It's also the "go as your ready" format. So, as soon as you feel ready to get going, you can toe the line and jump in. He did it at Wildwood and it was similar to that at the Escape Tri as well.

His wording is a "more neutral" transition. Hopefully that means the distance to the road isn't quite as long. It was like 1/3 of a mile running with your bike from transition to mount.

My biggest concern is the run up to the boardwalk. Last year, the police were actually stopping the runners to wave through some traffic at one of the intersections. That needs cleaned up.

What did everyone think of the docks and non wave starts?

My wife didn't like it. I guess it only works if people are honest about how they will swim it.

I liked the dock, but didn't do the race last year so I didn't have anything to compare it too.
I also liked the non-wave start. While I like the thrashing of the mass swim start, being a back of the pack swimmer it means getting of to a very slow start. I had a record swim that I wasn't expecting and I probably seeded myself a bit too far back. The challenge of the seed yourself approach is there isn't anything that defines everyone's speed. It would be helpful to have areas that target swim pace ranges.
I do wish, there was a way to have a warm up swim.

Yeah, last year as a wave start and it was treading water. We actually swam out into the water and waited for the horn.

I kind of liked the start, but my wife struggled with it. Some people right in front of her jumped in the water and immediately flipped on their backs and started backstroke / floating. If you are going to do that, be honest and wait until the very end.

We do a pool triathlon early in the season that asks for your 200m time at registration and then seeds you based on that for a time trial start.
It seems to work pretty well, but obviously AC is a much bigger race.

Overall, I really enjoyed the event again this year. The packet pickup location at first blush I didn't like, but in hindsight I guess it wasn't a big deal.

FYI, the Knights Inn across the street got much worse from 2012 and I wouldn't ever stay there again.

That is good to know. I thought about staying there, but wifey had some strict guide lines in the type of place she would stay. We stayed at a comfort suits in pleasantville. About a 10 minute ride in the early am.
Nice hotel and reasonably priced via priceline.

I guess I like the idea but I do not like the seed yourself part.  I was able to get in the 3rd wave (I think) and that was a struggle with people trying to get in the early waves.  I caught the wave ahead of me immediatley and then the wave before that by the bridge.  The good part was they were in small packs so somewhat easy to go around.  At least half of those in the first couple waves way over estimated their swim.  If there was a way to seed people and maybe more of an assigned start to eliminate the fight to go in an early wave I'd like it more.  I do like that it helps the people who would normally be stuck in the washer machine during a mass start.

I agree with the packet pick up.  At first I was taken back by how far a walk to the festival and then it being on the other side.  Nice it forced you to go into it and see all the vendors but I could've done without that.  Not sure I'd do this race again.  I like the location and Delmosports puts on a great race but this is second year it took a long time to start.  I think the blame there lies with the parking company.  If they'd open up two gates to let cars in that would probably speed things up.  I did hear them say people had trouble getting there because police shut the road down a little early but I still think it was the parking.

Who am I kidding, I'll probably do it again next year.
