Subject: Be Iron Fit for HIM?
Hello all!

Anyone used Don Fink's plan for a HIM?

I'm wondering if I should adapt the long sessions down and complete the 30 weeks that way.
Or follow the full program until the week 22, which is where he puts the HIM practice race?

If I do pare down the long sessions on the 30 week plan, ya reckon I should rescue it by 50%?

Thanks folks.

If you're training for a HIM, then use a training plan developed and written for the HIM distance.

You would certainly be able to complete a HIM if you follow the Be Iron Fit program, but your training time will would be used a lot more effectively if it were geared toward the specific race and distance you're interested in doing.

Take a look at the HIM plans on this site.

I don't care for any of the plans on this site.
I love the "training by time" not miles idea.

Thank you!

I've trained for 2 70.3's using Fink's plan. Last year I started from week 1 and trained up to where he has a 70.3 scheduled in the plan. This year I changed it up a little bit because I wanted to get in more cycling. I started on about week 10 and went all the way through week 30(which is actually next week my race is on 9/21). Although I did some modifications to the plan. I shortened the long rides to 3-3.5 hours but left all of the other cycling days the same. On the running I scheduled in running on his running days but did not follow his times. I'm an experienced runner that has dealt with a ton of injuries the last several years so I had my own running plan. On the swim I live in rural Oklahoma with limited access to a pool so most of my swimming is done in open water so I didn't use his swim plan. So I guess you can say I loosely followed his plan.

I don't get it. Didn't you say in another thread that you had no interest in doing a HIM?

Well, I figured I should. Seems like the "smartest" thing to do.

So...I already bought the book! Wanted to use it.

Fink has a book coming out soon for the 70.3 distance. I don't remember the exact date, but it's called Iron Fit Secrets for the half-iron distance

This is not an easy task, especially for the “9-to-5er” with family. But you can do it – all without sacrificing your marriage, job or family.
