Awesome...congratulations! That's some serious dedication by you and your family/friends - way to go!

Does someone have Mike Reilly recorded on tape or CD saying "You're an Ironman"...because you should definitely play that for yourself - you certainly earned it!

Winner!

I smiled reading this whole post - which is what it's all about.

Awesome, and you should TOTALLY write this up as a race report (RR or it didn't happen, as I like to say - and this sure as he11 happened!).

Totally captured the essence of the sport.  Hats off, sir, and thank you!

Matt

Nicely done! Keep this race on the DL, WTC may want to steal it!

Great idea and well done!

I'm pretty sure you can add your own race here and write a report. We would all love to read it.

Very impressive and what great friends to hang out all day for your " race"Just an idea but if you market it properly, maybe in 30 yrs you could have people pay $700 for yoir race and people will want to put a picture of a man getting punched on their calfNice work ironman

thats a win!

I'll try to get the official report on the racelog section, along with some pics. Should I add the pics here or the report page? (I've never done this before).

In answer to the "make it official" comments...I know many of you are saying that tongue-and-cheek, but based on the response here, I do think there would be interest in something like this. Maybe it could be called the "official unofficial IronMan". I would never want to start charging though, because then it looses the spirit of it.

That is just awesome! If that were me, it would probably be even better than an official IM finish. To have that kind of support from friends and family is what really matters at the end if it all. So cool!

No, but they did have the steretypical (yet insanely awesome) Black Sabbath song going :-)

That's impressive.

It's mentally tough as it is, even with the crowd/participants cheering you on and knowing what happens at the finish.  I think to do it like this would be a real test.

Very inspirational! I've dreamed of doing the original Ironman on Oahu someday, probably DIY as I don't think the race exists anymore. Makes me think it might be doable. Just not sure about the bike course--maybe it's all freeway by now. Having done a few DIY marathons (when I couldn't make the real race) and a solo 60 km run just to see if I could run to the ocean from where I lived, it's nice to find someone else who gets it that what really matters is taking the challenge and pushing one's limits, not the announcer or medal or tattoo.

For some reason your poster reminds me of Boondock Saints.

Congrats on pulling off your IM.

We have a couple of non-sanctioned, show up and go, endurance events around where I live. You might get some traction with this thing.

Awesome!!! So what if BT sponsored a DIY IM once a year? Pick a day and set up the guidelines for submitting the routes and times and people all across the world could do the BTIM DIY style!

Too crazy?

I think it's a great idea! I'll try to do a write up of how I organized it, what I would do differently, etc (probably won't get it done until next week).

I loved reading this thread because two other friends and I are doing the exact same thing on Sunday.   We have a course map with aid stations and have family and friends support all day.   Thank you for letting us know it CAN be done.   Would love to see what you write up as to what you learned from it.

Congratulations on your hard work!   I'm glad BT gave you the love you deserve for pulling this off!

wait why didn't I know about this? .

I think BT having its own worldwide race day would be a fantastic idea. It could be organized similar to the World Race for Hope events that all happen on the same day around the world. I would probably need a 36hr cut-off though!

This training plan is written to prepare you for your first Ironman. While just a beginner’s plan, the hours per week start at a significant 8 hours.
