Age Group Rank = 22/88
Pre-race routine:

Ate too much oatmeal, pancake sandwich with Nutella, and drove to teh race site for the hour long bus ride
Event warmup:

None. Bus problems kept us from getting to the race site til 6:40, then stood around waiting for the other buses to get there. Started ~30 min late
Run
  • 3h 32m 31s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

The constant downhills killed my quads. It felt easy running, never felt out of breath, even at 9500ft. Lost ~470ft in the first mile alone. It was just constant downhill for 19 miles. By the time we reached the flat, my quads were screaming and I had nothing left. Felt OK til the last 2 miles. I wasnt' trying to set a PR, but was hoping for closer to 3:20. The downhills were too much, and I don't have enough downhill to train on for this course.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, gota snack, and walked the 1/2 mile back to the car

What limited your ability to perform faster:

donwhill for the first 19 miles

Event comments:

This was a good race. Great website, good expo with lots of vendors. Transportation to the start was good, until one of the buses got stuck, blocking the road for all of the other buses. It delayed things by 30 min. The RD was sprinting between the buses keeping us all updated. It was n't his fault the bus driver didn't know how to drive. Tough course just because of the downhill. very scenic, though.

Holy crow!  19 miles of downhill is crazy!  Good job just finishing this one, and in a very solid time.

Boston seems tough and it has less downhill than your first half hour of this one!  Laughing

Congrats.

Wow! That's some serious elevation loss! I ran Tucson, which "only" drops about 2200 feet.

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.

Many people have been asking my opinion of this popular show, so I feel obliged to scream out: It's terrible! It’s horrible! It's abusive! I also feel like throwing my shoe at the TV.

I’m a 240lb man, and I run relatively long distances. How would you recommend training for marathon and IM distances as heavy as I am?
