Subject: Which locker do you pick at the gym/pool?

I'm not sure why this popped into my head this morning, but I started thinking about how everyone at the gym seems to pick a locker in the same general area every time.  Do you?  If so, how do you decide which one to choose?

I tend to pick a locker in the first aisle, beacuse (1) I can remember which row I'm in and (2) there's a mirror I can use for doing up my tie (no, I can't do it without looking).  I also try to pick one on the end, so worst case I only have one person next to me when I'm trying to get dressed.  The frst aisle also has a big fan at the end, which helps because the locker room can get pretty hot and humid regardless of the weather outside.

i'm the opposite - i always go towards the back corner/row of the locker room.  both my gym and my pool have half and full lockers - i always take a full locker - preferably with an odd number (to help me remember it).  if there are no full odd lockers, i take a top half locker - NEVER a bottom half locker.

i like the back row/corner cause nobody goes back there and i can spread out a little more.

I have a tendency to pick the same locker number if it's available, since I forget which number I'm in otherwise. If it's not available, I go for the nearest number to it that's a square number, or a multiple of 11. Probably an occupational disease--I teach fifth grade, and I'm always lining up or grouping kids, distributing laptops, etc. with crazy rules like that to control traffic in the classroom and make the kids do a little mental math work.

I tend to go closer to the front of the locker room - for me the back rows always have tons of people in them, but closer to the door not so much, then top in a half locker in the corner...i've been using the same one almost exclusively for about 3 months now - and only had someone in the same area as me like twice

Man...we have some OCD people in CoJ.....

I walk into the gym, find an open area (even, odd, middle, front, back.....wherever) and put my stuff in there.

I usually try to grab a locker that is not next to one that is occupied or two away from the nearest occupied locker.
I hate it when someone has to take the locker right next to mine, especially when all other lockers are available.

I try to avoid the ones in a row where the dryer is at junk level
plus all the rows where the old guys hang out, clipping their toenails and discussing sports while apparently air drying.

Check to see if there is an old naked guy lying in front of the locker. If so, move 10 spots down. Repeat. At the university where I attended, you may have to repeat this process three times.

But seriously, some factors are:
- I don't want to make a huge trail of water on the floor from the pool to my locker, so I pick one close to the door.
- I used to coach the local swim team, so I pick a locker at the polar opposite side of their lockers. I would use a different change room if it was possible.

I try to pick one next to the only other person in the locker room. They usually leave pretty quick after that leaving me with the whole room to myself.

Close to the door to the pool without getting too far from the main aisle. The locker on the end right next to the door is usually open and usually the one I take.

I used to pick the women's locker, but they kept calling the police on me for some reason.

I go to the same general area each day that's in the middle.  Some days I go out the back of the locker room to the pool and other days I go out the front for the gym, so it all averages out.

In my gym (LTF) the lockers all have keys in them, so I look for a section that has several empty keys.  I figure those people are all working out and by the time I get done they'll be finished and gone.  If there are a bunch of lockers with keys in them they will usually fill up and it seems the timing of my workout and shower coincides with everyone walking around naked at the same time.  :-/

Oh, and one other rule I have is when the creepy naked dude that likes to walk around the locker room for 30 minutes and talk to everyone is around.  I pick a locker in the far corner where he can't find me.

That's me too... my only criteria is looking around to find one that doesn't have 6 others filled right next too it.  This of course is negated when I finish my swim and some one is using the locker right next to mine when every other one in the aisle is open.

Funny.  My pool was doing some maintenance for about 4 or 5 days last month and they "changed" the locker rooms... men for women, women for men... I guess there were no female plumbers?

Anyhow, I never saw it, but I'm 99.9999% sure that several people went into the "wrong" locker room out of force of habit.

a corollary question would be how do you pick when you park?  i would bet systematic locker pickers are also systematic parkers, and those that don't care in the locker room, don't care in the parking lot.

I'm different with parking since the lot is usually packed, so that's not an issue.  The locker room, on the other hand, is a little different though.  Either there are more women than men that drive to the facility and work out and use lockers, or the men aren't bringing in their gear or taking it with them to wherever they are working out.  Dunno.

At my gym we rent lockers, so I always have the same locker. I picked it because it was at the very end of a row furthest away from the door, thinking it would be a low traffic area. Unfortunately, apparently I was very, very wrong. I don't know how people remember a different locker number each time, so I'm glad we have rentals. Then again, I park my car in the same row (the one that extends out from the door of the store) every time I go somewhere so I don't lose it too. No memory for the "unimportant" things like where did I leave my car or clothes apparently.

I normally use the same lockers at the gym and pool locker rooms all the time.    #38 at the gym and #14 at the pool.  I don't obsess over it, just more of a habit/routine thing.  If someone is using "my" locker, then I just pick another one.

I usually park at the far end of the parking lots out of habit and to hopefully avoid too many door dings.

Closer to the front of the locker room, top row, on the end. The end is key-- I know that even if it's crowded, I'll only have people standing on one side of me. It's the locker version of the aisle seat on the plane.

For my serious reply, I find myself gravitating to a general "section" of the locker room most days but if it's crowded I will move to anther - then I think "this looks good" and get on with it. I have a hot pink combination lock so usually easy to find mine if I can recall the general area I chose. Until the day a girl with the exact same lock put hers right next to mine Yell

We are creations of habit. I find myself walking the same way to work, riding the same route, picking the same locker room area, and lane in the pool etc.

I usually try to get ones closest to the aisle and with at least a one locker buffer, I don't like the feeling of being penned in with no escape especially after living in London and going to the gym there where I got to find out that the probability that a woman has done ANY nether region maintenance is slim to none.

an empty one that closes well enough to put a lock on................which is a challenge because there are not many lockers.   I have a pink lock so its easy to spot.
