Snow and overnight cold temps.

Ugh.  That's a tough way to start a looooong day.

Thinking about you racers--stay smart and have a great day!  You will most certainly have stories to tell :)

I'm looking out the window right now and watching the snow fall.

By morning the forecasts call for a brisk, but pretty nice day. Running a marathon in the mid 50s to low 60s should be nice. The swim and bike might be a little eye opening

The current plan is for an full IM that I will be telling stories about forever. Hope it really happens......

It helps to keep warm by wearing a long sleeve polypro shirt under the wetsuit. Good luck.

Good luck guys!

"Spudone" Bib 2114  (Mark)

"Wannabefaster" Bib 1782 (Jason)

Who else here on BT is racing today?

Word is 37 degrees, low wind, and sunny.  Patchy slickness on the roads, but that should be cleared up by the bike.

Watching with interest....It's reminding me of my first HIM attempt, when the upper reaches of the bike got snowed out and I wimped out of the swim and switched to the du. Air temps in high 30's and water temps in high 50's is nasty for the uninitiated--speaking from experience. Hopefully everyone has the necessary gear ready and is able to go through with it despite the cold conditions.

Note to self: If it ever possesses me to do an IM, never ever sign up for IMLT. Love high-altitude running and Tahoe is glorious, but I would freeze solid in those conditions.

Exactly. That course is so beautiful, but I just shut down in the cold. Apparently, it's not 37, it's 31. Thinking of the swim makes my teeth hurt.

The potential weather there at that time of year was one of the first things that occurred to me when the race was announced.  Dang, that sounds like a tough day.

lol!  Glad I could help :)

I'm at work doing an experiment with lots of down time.  This couldn't be better entertainment.  I'll be here all day...

I was just looking at the swim times for everyone.  Plenty of really fast swims.  Lots of women right around an hour. Daaaaang.

Verity Breen (45-49 F) laying down a 51:30 swim split.  Cripes!

just notices that out of 19 female pros who are listed on the start list, 4 don't have swim times.  Does anyone know if that means they DNS or if they didn't finish the swim?

Only 1 of the male pros doesn't have a swim time.

----

I guess it's now 45 at T2 and already 60 at some of the lower spots on the bike.  That sounds pretty good...

That second peak in the first set of climbs is dropping the male pros to below 9mph for that 2.2 miles split, women are about 7-7.5 mph there.  Woooo-eeee.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

The goal is to get stronger while your swim, bike and run training schedule is relatively light and you can afford to hit the weights hard a couple times each week.
