How long of a life do Vibrams have before they need to be replaced? Are they toast simply when something starts to fall apart or the sole wears too thin? FWIW I have the Spyridon LS.

Since there is no support that breaks down you basically keep using it until it falls apart or you wear it out to the point that you can't use it anymore.

Great. That's what I thought. I guess another reason to replace them would be their failing the sniff test.

Not even. Soak in soapy water w/ a touch of bleach for two days.

Would non-chlorine bleach do the trick?

I clean mine by tossing them in the washing machine on a cold delicate cycle. Then I dip them in a mixture of Mir-a-zyme (also good for wetsuits!) and water, and air dry outside. takes the smell right out.

As for replacement, I had to replace my first pair when the soles were smooth. I still wear them, but I'm careful as to what the weather is when I do.

If you are a fitness exerciser, you are unlikely to need extra electrolytes to replace those lost in sweat. If you exercise hard for more than four hours in the heat, replacment may be needed.

This video tutorial will show you how to fix a flat tire and also how to change the tire itself. Don't wait until you're out on the course at the races to learn how.
