Subject: Ironman 70.3 Raleigh?
Hello everyone! I am new to the tri world having just completed my first half iron @ Timberman in New Hampshire about a month ago. I am considering Ironman 70.3 Raleigh, and wondering how the two races match up. I thought Timberman was as tough bike course with a lot of difficult hills, so I'm looking for something a little LESS hilly this time around. I'm a good runner, have done 8 marathons, a decent swimmer (slow but steady), so the bike is my weakness. Any advice is appreciated!

I'll be there next year but I haven't done it before. My understanding is that its full of rollers but nothing I would consider true climbs. It's also a point to point course which is nice..

I'll be there too. Not sure where you live but living in Louisville, KY we have a lot of hills and rollers and I've been told training here will make Raleigh no problem. I've also heard the climbs are plentiful but not terribly steep.

I did the race last year. The bike course has some rollers but is not particularly difficult. The hardest part of the course were the hills near the museum on the run course - they were brutal. The run course has been re-done and they have been removed for 2014.

Overall it's a very fair course and pretty scenic. Just be aware of the possibility of a very hot race - it was quite warm last year.

Thanks, everyone! I decided to take the plunge and register! I looked at the elevation maps and the bike looks decent compared to the hills @ timberman, so I think I should be okay. I actually love hilly runs, and running is my best sport, so I will be okay with hills on the run. Timberman's run was pretty hilly, too, and I loved it. Looking forward to Raleigh!!!!!!!

I signed up today. Living on the coast i'm gonna have to do bike and run repeats on the bridge. I heard there's less than 100 spots left.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
