Total Time = 1h 21m 46s
Overall Rank = 26/371
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 4/29
Pre-race routine:

5am coffee, milk, banana, PB&J on toast. The usual routine...
Event warmup:

Not much of anything. Run shoes were turned in to T-2 the night before and no warm up swim was allowed. Warmed up my arms just a bit.
Swim
  • 10m 48s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not too bad. Felt pretty tired at the end. It was pretty uneventful and average but still came out of the water 2nd in AG. I think the wetsuit helped.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

Steep hill climb up to transition. Too muddy to go shoeless so I put them on in transition.

3rd fastest in AG
What would you do differently?:

I used a wetsuit puller. That worked out pretty well since it was muddy and we were required to bag our swim gear.
Bike
  • 43m 5s
  • 15 miles
  • 20.89 mile/hr
Comments:

Second loop seemed to go much quicker. Pushed pretty hard but the splits were not impressive.
What would you do differently?:

Not much except for the more training
Transition 2
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Had to run with shoes on due to mud and find my bag. Did not spot my bag right away and lost some time. There was a strap in my shoe that I forgot to take out.

3rd fastest in AG. Could have been fastest without lost bag and the strap in my shoe.
What would you do differently?:

Check the inside of my shoes. Mark my bag up so it is more recognizable.
Run
  • 24m 19s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 52s  min/km
Comments:

Felt slow and went slow. Probably a combo of lack of training and a little hard on the bike. A 40 yo passed me at mile 2 so I turned it up as hard as I could. He finished about 10 seconds behind me. I was proud of that.
What would you do differently?:

Train.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

I'd go back. As usual, High Five put on a good race at good venue.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

Any good race director will go over the triathlon swim course directions many times.

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
