Oct 2 - 171
Oct 9 - 176
Oct 16 - 173.8

Not bad considering my evening weigh-in was right after a company party, with an open bar and full buffet.

This sure is a difficult time of the year to loose weight. My body wants to bulk up for the winter and the short days make training difficult. For some reason people at work have been bringing in cookies, cake, or pizza every single day. It takes a lot of willpower to resist that stuff.

Next week will be a great weigh-in! I am well and can finally ramp up my training. Goal is to go sub <170.

Hi all! Okay, I got my official weigh in for the week done this morning and here's the breakdown:

October 1: 135
October 13: 133.5
October 17: 132.5

Not too bad considering I was on vacation for a week! Of course I have been bouncing around in the 132-135 range most of the year, so I won't be really psyched unless I actually hit my goal of 130 by the end of the month. If I get there, then I know I've actually done something right!

Dinner out tonight with a friend, but I'm going to do my best to make relatively smart choices, so hopefully it won't hurt the momentum!

Missed posting yesterday, but did manage to step on the scale. Slight drop but not anywhere near what I would like to see. Several setbacks this week though. Friday went to the doctor about my right knee pain, nothing serious but he recommended resting it, problem is I have my last race of the season this Sunday. Went for an easy ride Saturday and felt like I was pedaling through mud or riding on a flat. Took the bike in and the bottom bracket and rear hub are shot. It should be back in time for the race. So I thought I would hit the pool, woke up Sunday morning to an algae bloom and some really pretty green water. And on top of that, this week is the end of the quarter, so all my wonderful students are scrambling to get work turned in and I'm furiously trying to get grades entered so I can enjoy my last race, which I haven't been able to train for. How's that for tapering?

10/1 - 265.2

10/9 - 268.8

10/16 - 268.2

October goal - 260

Slow and steady! I was sure I would be up from last week since I ran a marathon Sunday. I did fluctuate up a few days after the race but then came back down nicely.

10/4 - 129.8
10/11 - 129.6
10/18 - 128.8

So, anyone ever have a nagging injury that keeps them from running/riding/doing anything on your feet longer than 20 minutes hurts like hell.

How to deal with it, My coping with stress is to cook and eat. Soooooo, cook up and storm and now have leftovers for the week. So utterly frustrated. i let it go too long and now am dealing with it. (Because in the past it healed quickly).

Curiosity, how to burn calories when your back will not cooperate with you.

Still on Medifast, but with 4 meal replacements and a real lunch and dinner. Also threw in a few chocolate chip cookies the other night, with my nightly habit of red wine.

Feeling good and keeping up the workouts. I'm really trying to improve my fitness while losing. Not a believer of sacrificing intensity just to survive on fewer calories. If I have to bump up the calories a little, then I do so, but I know from experience that I have to be careful not to overcompensate or I won't lose. Hope everyone's having a good week. Any races planned?

Ok, I'll take it. Glad the weigh-in is today rather than tomorrow, when I'll be out for my partner's birthday. Although I'm using my 10-day trend weight for my "weigh-in", rather than my day-of weight, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

If my back is really bad there is nothing I can do other than get it better first. If it's your lower back most of the time it is not a disc but the muscles in that area in spasm. I usually blast it with 800 mg of ibuprofen 3x per day to decrease the swelling and ice the area 15 minutes on, 30 minutes off. After a few days I'll schedule a massage and have them focus on my low back (QLs and erectors), glutes, hams, and quads. If its a very good therapist I'll have them do a psoas release, which is often the key to relieving low back pain. Combine all that with gentle stretching and good sleeping posture and you'll win.

Try to stay in the pool and/or stationary bike until it looses up. Then gently start working your core and strengthening your abs and hamstrings, keeping the quads stretched and get a massage at least once per month to keep up on the glute/psoas/legs connections.

Good luck.

AND now on to MY weight this week:

198.8

19.4% BF

I can only post those number because I'm confident they will be changing in my favor soon and it will be fun to look back.

Checking in with my weigh in for the week:

October 1: 135
October 13: 133.5
October 17: 132.5
October 23: 131.5

I'm glad to see the numbers still going down, although I admittedly didn't have the best diet this week since I had some personal stuff going on. I kind of lose my appetite when I'm upset and as a result, end up eating weird things like M&Ms for lunch since I can't bring myself to eat a normal meal. Thankfully, the issues I was dealing with have been resolved, so I'm back on track with healthy eating and plan to start up exercising again with a long run tomorrow!

Yeah me!! Downward movement. Been not working because of a back injury. It's frustrating me lately, but getting back on the horse tomorrow.

A great massage last night really helped.

On my way to the 170's. I have not been in that range since I was a Sophomore in High School. Back in 2001/2002.
I did the 30 runs in 30 days challenge. It seems to have worked. I am continuing on beyond 30 days.

Let's stay strong everyone. The dreaded (from a weight loss perspective!) holiday season is coming up quickly.

I'm glad to see others are making progress.

Oct 2 - 171
Oct 9 - 176
Oct 16 - 173.8
Oct 23 - 173

I've cleaned up my diet but my training has nearly stopped. I don't have the gear to run or cycle in <50*F, and I don't enjoy running in the dark. The upcoming DST change will be brutal.

Solid for me, considering I had a marathon in there and I always gain after a big race. Even though it's "only" 2 pounds I'm VERY happy with October!
Great job everyone!

Met my goal for Oct (plus 0.2!) despite a slow start.

I know now why I've had trouble losing weight in the past - my love of wine. I had accounted for a decent sized glass (by weighing it) it in calorie goals, but over time, the amount I accounted for grew by a glass and a half, then 2 glasses, and of course I didn't remember that the next day. I was easily drinking an extra 300-400 calories each day and had no idea. Now I know why people say to cut out alcohol period when trying to lose weight - the calories just creep in too easily.

Moral of the story - if you're having trouble losing, weigh/measure EVERYTHING for a little while. You may very well be underestimating the calories somewhere.

Great job everyone!

Vivian & thedallasceliac -- very nice work! You have set a high bar for October.

I'm back to training daily and even dipped into Ketosis yesterday. My diet has been excellent, I got a good nights sleep, I don't plan to eat out today, and I hope to swim 2500y during my lunch break. Everything is lining up for a record weight in this evening.

Darn it stayed the exact same every darn day. Well still working on my back issues, and PF a little bit. All in all I ran for the first time in two weeks Sunday, It hurt but hey got in 12 miles. Did another 3 last night. So happy with that. I set my schedule pretty much through March 9th. Including hopefully several ski days. (PRAY FOR SNOW).

Waiting for that day when training does not necessarily = pain.
