I just looked at the photos taken during a recent race. OMG, do they go out of their way to take the most unflattering shots possible? Maybe I do have a constant grimmace on my face during the race.

Years of training go into making sure you look like a storming idiot in any race picture. They practice.

We were discussing this the other day in the mentoring thread I'm in--how when you're running, the impact can make things look much worse than they appear in normal conditions.  Add to that the swim cap/helmet hair, some goggle action, tight spandex.  It's a perfect storm, brotha.

It really seems that way.  I've been fortunate enough to get some awesome pics, but I also have some baaaaaaaad ones too.

As someone who has lost a lot of weight, I can tell you that I hate every single picture of my thighs that has ever been taken while I run. The impact does horrible things to loose skin. Horrible.

My best worst race photo was at the finish of Pat's Run in Tempe a few years ago.  The finish chute was backed up and they caught my projectile vomit hitting the back of the guy in front of me.  He was just arching his back as it hit while a good amount was still in mid-air.

I have my wife take pictures of me during training. Nothing new on race day.

What I notice with my running pictures is I look like I'm taking it easy and just jogging. Maybe I need to work on my forward lean and my "war face".

I got a couple good swim and bike pics taken at races this year.  Still can't get a good run one which is probably a testament to my baaaad running form.  My wife said I didn't try hard enough this year because I was smiling in too many pics and it looked like I was just out training.

I think they caught me at the best possible moment exiting the swim at IM WI 2013, yelling "LAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!!" - I suffered some major cramps in the lower legs just over halfway through, and there were 2 foot swells on the lake with 12 - 15 mph winds this year, so I was QUITE happy to get the heck out of there:

LAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!!

The guy behind you seemed to like the swim.  Looks like he's going back for seconds!

That was one of the volunteers that helped people up before the ramp/incline in the water at the water exit.  A lot of people are slightly disoriented and dizzy and don't get their "land legs" and lose their balance there.  There are very helpful and there for safety.

The photos on the bike are best. Get a really nice bike and then that is what stands out in the photo.

My right knee has a pain in the front, just below the kneecap. I walked 24 miles of IM Louisville. No pain while walking but it started immediately when trying to run.

I'm going to let you in on how to get faster by doing nothing. Well, not exactly nothing, but you won't have to raise your heart rate, put out 300 watts, or really even break a sweat.

So here I was, a hard-working, respectable, just-turned-forty-six-year-old, who never considered herself athletic, lining up in my swim cap and goggles for my first triathlon.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.

What to wear under the wetsuit? What to wear for the bike and the run? Good thing someone invented the wonderful trisuit, to which we’ve become accustomed. It’s supposed to make our lives so simple.
